Oh, I know what he meant. It's not a novel idea, and you're right, he can't speak English. If a team wins the Superbowl, you can understand them letting off the gas. If a team loses a Superbowl, you would think they would try their damnedest to get back. He was saying it as if that's some fantastic idea. Oh and finishing second in a game is called losing.
