This is probably the most ridiculous question I've asked on SoSH, and I've asked a few, but how the hell do you include a picture in a post?

I've seen the option to include an image via a URL, presumably from somewhere on the web, but what about a pic from your own PC that doesn't have a URL? I've tried the simple, old 'cut&paste' option but the images doesn't appear in the preview or in the final post.

Is this connected with the 'My Media' option and if so, how the heck do I use that?

Is there a massive 'Help' section somewhere here on SoSH as to how to actually use the technology available here on this forum as it's become much more complex since I first came on here some 8 years or so ago.

I'm not a techie...as if wasn't obvious!

Thanks

This is not a ridiculous question at all. I await an answer since I've never used the My Media feature, but there is a workaround if the My Media feature doesn't work. You can setup Dropbox, put whatever picture you want to share into the "public" Dropbox folder, then right click to "copy public link," then use that as the URL when you add a picture into a post.

I've found this feauture of dropbox to be very, very handy all over the internet.

Brilliant workaround, thank you. I've been using Dropbox for a few months now for business and never even considered it for this. Thanks.

If you don't have dropbox, there are tons of sites like http://imagesocket.com where you go there and upload an image that they host; once it's uploaded, they give you the regular HTML link and the BBCode (message board code) to post it wherever else.

http://imgur.com/ kicks ass, if you sign up for an account it even lets you even keep track of what you have uploaded and can delete if need be.

To piggyback, whenever i post an image from imgur or a similar site it is MASSIVE. Even if the photo I upload is 200x150 it gets expanded to the entire editing window.

Anyone know how to keep the images small?

Both look okay to me. I used the "BBCode (message boards & forums)" code from imgur and the "Message Boards #2 (show full image in post)" code from imagesocket.
