Here come the Orioles, eight games behind NY and tied for second place with Tampa. The Yankees have been blessed by a lack of challengers in the East but two months still remain in the regular season, plenty of time for someone to make a move, especially if the Yanks, who have lost 7 of their last 10 games, continue to stumble.

NY is coming off losses in games started by its two best pitchers and now turns to Freddy Garcia, who has been spotty in recent starts. Baltimore counters with 28-year-old rookie RH Miguel Gonzalez, who is 2-2 in four starts with a 4.28 ERA. He has never faced the Yankees.

Ichiro, who has a single in every game he has played for NY, killed two rallies on Sunday night with weak outs. The former Mariner is hitting .167 with RISP. Some of his outs have been Little League pops to the infield. This is not a hitter Kevin Long can talk to much because Ichiro has his own unique style of hitting.

Here's the good news: Ichiro goes to LF tonight, which puts Andruw Jones on the bench. Jones's lack of range in the outfield has become a detriment to the team. He can play right field at home but not left field.

This Yankee team is far from a finished product. They need Joba back in the bullpen, something that should happen this week. They need Petttitte and A-Rod back in September with enough time left to get competitive for the playoffs. Last year, A-Rod came back from a thumb injury in September and never found his stroke, not then and not in the playoffs.

Swisher still at DH, Girardi and Cashman are being very conservative bringing guys back with the big division lead.

Interesting how the Cashman/Girardi team works. When Ichiro became available, Cashman talked to his manager and came up with a list of rules Ichiro had to consent to before the Yankees would make the trade: 1. Not batting leadoff, more likely batting at the bottom of the lineup; 2. Would play left field; 3. Might sit against certain lefties. Ichiro agreed and the deal was done.

There's something happening and you don't know what it is. Do you, Adam Jones?

Still sick of the Freddy Garcia Experience, 9 hits in less than 5 IP so far.

Would you prefer moving Phelps to the rotation? Or, just wait for Andy P.?

I'd like to see Phelps get another shot in the rotation, Joba get activated, Qualls get dumped, Garcia go back to long guy, Swisher go back to RF and Ichiro go to LF. How's that? :)

Sounds like you've got it all worked out. Now, if the Yankees can only beat the Orioles and help the Sox inch upwards in the exciting Wild Card race.....

I'd also like to see some runners on base for all of these solo HRs.

Ichiro! I'm sure he's happy to be out of Safeco.

Martin tagged that one too, he just hit it to dead center.

What happened to Teixeira?

Bad hop grounder that got by him, but as he tried to react to it, looked like he maybe tweaked his back.

What happened to Teixeira?

Injured left hand on Hardy's single. He dove for ball hit to his left, ball bounced left and Teix reached back for bad hop and landed hard on his glove hand.

Or it could be his back, as JA notes.

Just saw Phil Coke in the Boston game. He looks 15 pounds heavier than last year. Also, Austin Jackson pulled a Granderson on Shoppach's triple. Ran a bad route.

He gave Crawford a triple earlier in the game by playing the Monster poorly.

I was wondering how Carl got a triple. Reminds me of Ann Richards' campaign joke about the young George Bush. "he was born on third base and thot he had hit a triple."

Cano 0-for-14. He picked a bad week to stop hitting.

Chad Qualls making his final appearance as a Yankee with one out and two on in the ninth.

Yankee bullpen hasn't looked too efficient lately.

Rapada just remembered who he was. Boone Logan is Boone Logan. I would take Andrew Miller if The Sox were allowed to trade with NY.

Down go the Yankees again. 8 losses in 11 games. 2-3 without Alex. Mite be nice to get Cano hitting soon, especially if Teix is out a few days.

This is not good. Wrist injuries take a lot of time. Cashman may be swinging into action tomorrow. Teix is tough to replace.

So embarrassing for the entire Yankee organization that John Sterling still has a job:

#Yankees report Teix will miss 3-ish days with inflamation in wrist. Had cortisone shot. MRI revealed nothing more serious. Yanks exhale

Had same thing, same treatment in 2009. We all exhale. I don't know how the Yanks replace what Teix does. Or Cano.

I could replace what Cano has done the last few games. :)
