I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission.

The win last night was the direct result of dedicating the game to this man.

Stick with the program.

Not getting my hopes up for tonight's game. After all, the Tigers will be well-rested (day game yesterday) and the Sox, after the extra, will have gotten into beantown in the wee hours. Grogginess does not generally equate to good eye-hand coordination.

I hope Cheeriaco gets the start.

Pedro Ciriaco

The AP calls him Peter
ESPN calls him Ciriano
SOSH refers to him as "the neck"

But all he knows how to do is win. Let's keep riding the Ciriaco wave.

For the Tiger series, lefties are hitting Scherzer and Porcello well (850 and 820 OPS respectively). No one is hitting Verlander with an OPS below 600 for either side of the plate.

After all the suckiness and drama and injuries and dumb trades and suckage by high-paid players, this team still has a chance at the playoffs. This homestand is pretty much the last chance though. The team has sucked badly at Fenway all year. They either put a stop to that over the next 10 games or their chances will basically be gone.

An 8-2 homestand would change everyone's feelings about this team. It's going to be difficult, especially tonight with the late-night arrival and still no Ortiz for the first couple games. But 7 or 8 wins out of 10 could happen and would make the rest of the season much more fun to watch. 2 out of 3 from the Tigers would be a fine start-- then get Ortiz back, get some good starts from the pitchers, pound some Twins pitching and get on a roll.

So no one is playing shortstop? That's adding to degree of difficulty.

Aviles, Punto, and Ciriaco will fight it out in a 3-man cage match at 4:00.

Is this the first time both Salty and Shoppach are in the lineup? Showcasing Shoppach for a potential deal?

Shoppach is likely in at C since Salty played last night, and the Sox didn't hit get home to their beds until this morning. Salty is in at DH since Ortiz is out.

Interesting to see BobbyV going with Ciriaco over Punto.

Not surprising. He wasn't here when they got Punto, pretty much named Aviles the starter immediately, and hasn't used Punto except when he's absolutely had to. I think the manager doesn't think Nick Punto is much of a baseball player, EVEN THOUGH HE SLIDES INTO FIRST BASE.

Saltalamacchia has hit well against Scherzer in the past, but I'm predicting 7 Ks between him and Shoppach.

Maybe 7K's and 1 HR.

BA=.125
OBP=.125
SLG=.500

Shoppalamacchia.

Can the Sox reach 500 runs scored tonight by scoring one run before the Rangers can score three? Texas has a five minute head start and they bat in the top of the 1st on the road.

Punto is the double secret catcher if Shoppach needs to come out of the game.

Or you just move Salty out of the DH spot to C and then PH for the Ps as they come up. Not a big deal. Girardi did it this weekend. I don't know why everyone makes such a big deal about losing the DH late in the game. Not going to come back and bite you unless it goes 15 innings.

Go Sox!
