Thank god it wasn't here.

Rick Nash traded to Rangers per Dreger, more to follow

My guess would be Dubinsky, Stepan, Erixon, and a 1st or 2nd.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger
Will be multiple players involved in Nash trade to NYR. Contracts are being reviewed, etc. All to be done before trade call.

will be very interested to see the return - better be like 2 or 3 rosters players plus picks.

edit - It's "multiple players" according to a Dreger follow-up

I'm going with Kreider and 1 of MDZ/McDonaugh.

The Rangers are dumb.

So Nash - Richards - Gaborik? That's a pretty sexy line, even though the rest of their forwards will be gutted.

I'd be shocked if the Rangers give up Kreider, but I doubt Columbus does it without him.

I agree with this.

Where the hell is PSK with more details? Is he slacking again? I can't access twitter at work.

Also from Dreger - with correct spelling to boot!

News from Nashville: Siarhei Kastsitsyn (NSH) has settled: 2 yrs AAV $3 mil.

Dreger

Are you kidding me? The other piece better be Kreider.

It's the Rangers. Bettman probably made the Blue Jackets take two mid level prospects, a bad contract and a 2nd.

So Scott Howson manages to trade a potential 50-goal scorer away in exchange for two pluggers and a late 20s pick?

Can I have his job?

Edit: Yes, I'm aware that those aren't the only players. However, I'm also sure those three are the biggest pieces. No Kreider, no Del Zotto, no McDonough. Franchise-crushing trade for CBJ.

After all the blustering, positioning, and bullshitting, he really got bent over and assfucked by a Rambone.

No wonder Columbus is going nowhere.

The worst part in the whole Columbus situation is they made a big deal out of hiring Craig Patrick as a consultant, yet Howson still makes that trade. Disgusting.

The Penguins got a better haul for pending UFA Jordan Staal than the Blue Jackets did for Rick Nash, who is under contract for several more years. That doesn't make sense.

He's only put up 40 goals twice, the last time being 2008. He's a good player, but let's not go overboard.

The Rangers cleared $6M with the trade of Dubinsky and Anisimov and only added an additional $1.8M with bringing on Nash. This is a great trade for the Rangers.

I know many of you here didn't want Nash's contract but the Bruins couldn't match that fucking deal? What a joke! The Rangers just got better and Philly just got better if the Weber signing goes through. Those are two of the main competitors for the Bruins who also I may add both finished ahead of the Bruins in the standings and went further in the playoffs and yet the Bruins have still done nothing this offseason.

I really really want to know what the fuck Howson was thinking after asking for pieces like Seguin and Hamilton from the Bruins, or Skinner from the 'Canes.

Maybe someone can offer a counter-argument to why this is acceptable? Right now, I just don't see it.

Actually, considering Nash's AAV, it makes perfect sense. That contract is crippling for most teams.

I actually think this is probably at the top of the market for what CBJ could get back for Nash, especially since everyone was laughing at the ridiculous returns they were reportedly asking for. This sounds a lot more reasonable. Now if we're going to assume that premise, the real question becomes if they should have stayed pat with Nash or done this trade. I'm honestly torn on that. I really don't think there was that much more out there for him.

Either way, it's pretty much a slam dunk trade for the Rags.

Given that many of us assumed roster players would be involved, and with Chiarelli saying Krejci/Lucic were untouchable, I think that answers the question from the Bruins perspective. Howson could conceivably have asked for one or the other, and Chia just said no.

I can't believe that Columbus actually almost stayed the same salary-wise with Nash. I wouldn't have traded Nash unless I got out from under his salary in the short-term as well. Long-term, this is good but they can't even add anything. Dubinsky is owed $4.2 million for the next 3 seasons and Anisimov makes $1.8 million and is a RFA after the year.

Yea, but why were they asking that from the Bruins and not from the Rangers? Dubinsky is not as good as either Looch or Krejci. It makes no sense.

It is a completely awful, awful deal for Columbus!

Hey guess what - it gets worse for Columbus. Their beat writer Aaron Portzline just tweeted:

TSN has Dubinsky, Anisimov, Erixon and 1st to #CBJ. Told #CBJ are sending a 3rd-round pick and a minor-league defenseman to the Rangers.

At this point, the blue jackets might as well trade Huselius, Aucoin and Prospal - they're so young that it's pointless having these 3 on the team.

EDIT: Huselius is an UFA

Rangers got a great deal, Howson shot himself in the foot months ago and was never going to get full value.

When they're healthy:

Nash - Richards - Gaborik
Kreider - Stepan - Callahan
Hagelin - Boyle - Thomas/Pyatt/Miller
Rupp - Halpern - Asham

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Del Zotto
Sauer - Stralman

Lundqvist
Biron

Look out, East. My goodness.

Columbus, on the other hand...

Dubinsky - Johansen - Foligno
Prospal - Anisimov - Umberger
Calvert - Brassard - Atkinson/MacKenzie
Gillies - Letestu - Dorsett
Boll

Johnson - Wisniewski
Tyutin - Aucoin
Nikitin - Moore
Savard

Bobrovsky
Mason

This might be the worst team I've ever seen.

Brassard as a 3rd line center?

I just went back to the trade deadline thread, and it appears as though Columbus turned down Dubinsky, Erixon, JT Miller, Christian Thomas and a 1st. 5 months later, the Jackets essentially turned Miller and Thomas into Anisimov. I'd prefer the two prospects.

Well done, Howson.

Calm down spanky - it wasnt' a steaming pile of junk. The trade is a clear win for the Rangers, but the Blue Jackets got some good players back. Erixon immediately becomes the Blue Jackets best prospect outside of Johansen. It's just that the Blue Jackets got no immediate help back and are banking that these young guys will turn into really good players. Anisimov had 44 and 36 points in his age 23 and 24 seasons; Dubinsky has had a couple of 20 goal seasons before the age of 25.

With Nash's NTC and outrageous contract, what other teams were a fit and were willing to give up more? I'm pissed that the Blue Jackets didn't get more and this is a clear win for the Rangers, but you need to do some homework.
