I've always liked Ichiro, excited to root for him to revive his career for the next few months. He will definitely be active tonight for NY, and presumably get the start in RF since Swisher is out.

I don't like Ichiro, never have. I am hoping this gives him some sort of career revival, though, going from worst to first.

Oh, and I'll be at Safeco tonight, so that should be cool.

Maybe his offense has declined, but I've never seen a better right fielder. He's still got that great arm, yes?

Ankiel was recently DFA'd. Him and Ichiro in the corners could redefine 'no doubles defense'.

I hope he walks a few times, learns to extend ABs just by osmosis. Doubt that is possible. Definitely excited to see him play in pinstripes.

This has got to be the oldest team in history.

I have been angry for years that Harold Reynolds still has a national job (and somehow got a second one after ESPN fired him!!!), so it was extra hilarious to hear Ichiro slam him in the press conference today. Reynolds asked his 'question', the interpreter translated, and Ichiro just said "I don't think we have time for useless questions like that". So so so awesome.

And amusingly going against Millwood tonight. As Meff said, this would have been a helluva matchup in 2001. :)

Tonight's lineup:

Jeter-38
Granderson-31
A-Rod-37 in a few days
Cano-30 in October
Teixeira-32
Ibanez-40
Jones-35
Ichiro-39 in October
Martin-29

That is an average of just under 35. Swisher will bring it down a bit when he's back, but even he is 32 in November.

Nice first inning for Alex. Hits into DP, then a two-base throwing error. He can do it all.

Ibanez grounds into DP to end second. Teams look old and flat when they're not hitting.

Nice to see Millwood doing well. He was a real class act in Pawtucket last year. Treated everyone with respect.

Ichiro singles, steals second, stranded at third to end top of third. Still runs well.

I love how the YES announcers are lauding Curry for breaking news on the Ichiro trade. He works for the fucking team, how does that count as breaking news?

He's no Jenny Dell!

Glad someone else noticed that too, they also gave him credit for magically scooping people on the news of Pettitte's coming back.

A-Rod made a defensive play!

Remember back in 2010 when Steve Jobs broke the scoop on the iPad!? What blockbuster reporting that was! But he was no Jack Curry!
