So, what's the game plan that McClure and Lester have worked out? Something different? Studied some vintage Lester film? More cutters? Anything?Seeing good Jon Lester would make me feel a lot better about this team.

A lot of it has to do with the poor offense. Knowing that you basically have to throw a shutout to win is too much pressure for any pitcher. Peter Gammons has mentioned this a few times - Lester seems like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders every time he pitches. During most of last season, when the Sox offense could hit with RISP, Lester seemed much more relaxed on the mound. Now, he knows that if he gives up a run or two, he'll probably lose.
In past years, you always felt confident that the offense could make a comeback, even if they were down 4 or 5 runs. Now, even a one run deficit seems insurmountable at times.

That's the poor offense that has outscored every other team in baseball, right?

So his anxiety forces him to throw cookies right down the frigging middle of the plate! Bring in the sports shrink, asap!

I am at the point at which I expect the starters will barf all over themselves every game. That way I am pleasantly surprised when they don't give up runs in the first inning. Go Sox.

We have a pitching coach? Why does Valentine go to the mound? Isn't that the pitching coach's role?
