Is that the best they could do? Meh.
Fesenko plays harder than Haddadi. He's more of an enforcer, which is an element this team has lacked since Perkins left.
Google results for "Kyrylo Fesenko" + enforcer: 4,520 results
Google results for "Jason Collins" + enforcer: 15,200 results

Fesenko: 1107 career minutes played in the NBA (8.2 mpg)
Collins: 14,418 career minutes played in the NBA (21.4 mpg)
The number of google references to "enforcer" is disproportionate to the length of their respective careers-- in Fesenko's favor.
But after further consideration I feel better about this signing. Collins a a vet who can help teach Melo the little tricks and won't be a threat to him. Also Collins won't be 34 until December. I thought he was older. Hope I'm not rationalizing.

The Jason Collins Nets' highlight reel (yeah, I was pretty shocked this existed too):
Collins' Hawks highlights (the beauty of this is that the fan who made this was clearly pissed at the Hawks and said, fuck it, I'm gonna make an ironic Jason Collins video)

He's still Jason Collins, but an experienced big was needed, good on Danny for getting one.

Out of the guys I listed in the other thread, I think Collins is the best (least-worst) option. We don't really need an enforcer, we need someone who can actually play minutes at center. Fesenko hasn't shown he can stay on the floor, and his youth (and inexperience) wouldn't be an asset for this team, and particularly not with a one-year BAE deal.

He has shown this ability more than Fesenko has, but Collins has also been pretty terrible at staying on the court the last four seasons.

If you look at sibpin's numbers from the other thread, it does--- but just barely. If they also want to sign Christmas for the rookie minimum, it might push them over.

All minimum salary players count at the two year minimum salary (about $850K). The NBA actually picks up the difference to make sure that old guys aren't pushed out of the league due to salary reasons...The veterans' minimum for players with 10+ years of experience is $1.352 million. Will this signing allow the C's to use the biannual exception on another player and stay below 74 million?

When a player has been in the NBA for three or more seasons, and is playing under a one-year, ten-day or rest-of-season contract, the league reimburses the team for part of his salary -- any amount above the minimum salary level for a two-year veteran. For example, in 2011-12 the minimum salary for a two-year veteran is $854,389, so for a ten-year veteran, with a minimum salary of $1,352,181, the league would reimburse the team $497,792. Only the two-year minimum salary is included in the team salary, not the player's full salary. They do this so teams won't shy away from signing older veterans simply because they are more expensive than younger veterans.
