full story

BOSTON, MA – Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today, July 18, that the club has signed defenseman Aaron Johnson to a one-year, two-way contract through the 2012-13 season. Johnson’s contract is worth $650,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 at the AHL level.
Johnson, a 6’1”, 204-pound defenseman, skated in 56 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2011-12, registering three goals and setting NHL career highs with 13 assists and 16 points, while collecting 16 penalty minutes.

I suppose this puts an end to the Mike Mottau era of Bruins hockey.

At any rate, it's nice to have finally have couple of guys with legitimate NHL experience to stash in either Providence or the press box. Exelby/Johnson are certainly both upgrades over the Bartkowski/Kampfer type call-ups the B's have used the past few years.

And a Caper, no less. Aren't many of them in the NHL.

Absolutely a depth signing. If he plays more than 10 games in the NHL next year, I'll be very surprised and horrified.

Honestly, he'd make a decent 7th. Very happy with getting a player of his caliber on a 2 way near-min.
