Right Field.

Voting:
Please vote for 5 to 9 players. The top 5 vote-receivers are accepted. (
Since you can vote for up to 10 players, you could vote for them all if you'd like)

After all the positions are in, the top vote-getters not previously selected will be accepted, with no more than 10 per position, until 57 players are selected.

If there is a tie for fifth, the player with more nominations will be selected

More info on the methodology here

Baseball Reference positional history here

Voting ends Monday, July 24 at 12pm ET.

Nine players were nominated, under the poll choice limit of 20, so all players nominated are in the poll.

Voted for 7 out of 9 options.

The top options:

Dwight Evans
Trot Nixon
JD Drew

The big moment players who didn't completely suck:

Tom Brunansky
Bernie Carbo

The just good enough to still get a non-top 5 nod:

Jimmy Piersall
Ken Harrelson

I can never forgive Harrelson for his broadcasting career, but his 1968 season in Boston was Jacoby Ellsbury 2011 good. It's insane that he went from so dominant in 1968 to traded in 1969, to out of baseball after 1971. Do our elder fans have some background on that story?

Hawk took over in right for the tragically injured Tony C. In 1968, he hit cleanup a lot, after Yaz and before Reggie Smith, Rico, and (slumping that year) George Scott. He probably saw tons of good pitches. Then, Yaz dropped way off in 1969 and so did he. They say he liked his booze and women, but so do a lot of other guys (or so I've heard). Did he get run out of town for his nightlife habits?

Harrelson was traded 10 games into the 1969 season, so it's hard to say he dropped way off. He ended up with a .756 OPS that season, the 4th highest of his career. He broke his leg and missed most of 1970, then retired in 71 after losing his 1B job to a rookie named Chris Chambliss.

I think he was traded in part because he didn't get along very well with Dick Williams (who did?). And Tony C came back and was immediately put back in RF, relegating Harrelson to 1B.

Appreciate the history, thanks.

Hopefully the Ellsbury comparison (one fantastic season, injured and then done) doesn't hold up beyond the 1969/2011 stat lines.

Monday AM bump,

The next thread will be for DH, which will have different eligibility criteria: all players not yet selected with 100+ OPS+ will be eligible

Lest we forget - golf gloves as batting gloves and Hawk's Men's Wear - namely the shirts with a hawk logo. The Derek Sanderson of the Red Sox. And one more guy in Dick Williams' crowded dog house.
