As part of the SoSH/SIC fundraiser DONATE HERE, SoSH is going to build a long term relationship with SIC. We'll receive periodic updates of the STATS rumbling through the country side fighting HIV/AIDS.

For those of you hoping to get to know SIC, to not just be a donor, but a supporter and partner, below is a video with one of their fantastic Tanzania program staff talking about why they need a heavy duty truck to get their work done.

I know it's a shade over two minutes, but give it a watch, it's not like you're getting much work done anyway.

Hey everybody! Great work on the fundraiser, hard to believe we're past the halfway mark!

The American summer (our cold season) is a time of year when our trucks are really busy. Every May-September, we host about 70 international volunteers in three groups, recruited from select universities in the US and UK. We take the good-intentioned energy of our volunteers and hone and channel it where it can be useful. We train them in how to conduct HIV education campaigns in rural Tanzanian communities and then pair them with outstanding Tanzanians to co-teach and translate. Then we assign them to a specific village, where they live with local people and teach at local schools and community events for six weeks. They attract a lot of attention, which means people listen to HIV education and show up for testing by our professional counselors. The results of the campaigns are always impressive.

Our volunteers pay a fee, which covers all of their costs in country, including housing and food with local families, visa, transport, and the costs of their teaching. It also covers some of our routine running costs like salaries and vehicle maintenance. This sustainable source of income means that we can commit to our communities regardless of grant funding, and that our grant proposals request funds for line items that are most attractive to donors. It's a competitive advantage for us that we generate our own funds, and it makes the entire program stronger.

To kick start the fundraising, the next 20 people to donate $50 or more to Support for International Change will receive a special gift, a Pamoja tote bag hand made in Arusha, Tanzania. Donate here. After you've donated, PM your address so we can send the bag along. (Note: Auction donations do not count)

The bag will come in one of the two styles below.

Jose- When I click on that link, I see two options for donating. One is in the center of the screen and says "Donate through Network for Good" and the other on the right hand side at the top which says "Donate Now Support the SIC Mission." Do you (or SIC) have a preference which link I use? Just want to make sure that the money gets to the right place. Thanks!

Use the one in the middle and put SoSH in the designation spot.

Thanks for asking.
