This is probably the biggest final in years. Murray can become the first Great British native to win it in 78 years while if Fed can win he ties Sampras with his 7th title. I'm rooting for Murray.

Irrelevant rant:
I really hate the American bias in tennis coverage. Federer is, without a shadow of a doubt, a greater player than Sampras. Whether he wins a 7th Wimbledon title or not does not change that. I mean, look at Pete's record at the French open. Federer was only robbed of at least 3-4 more French titles by the greatest clay court player of all time.

Are you referring to something in particular Saby? Other than mentioning Roger would match Sampras's WImbledon titles with a win, I don't think I've seen anyone implying Pete was the better overall player.

Nothing to do with your post. Just finished reading an article that painted the match as Federer's chance to edge ahead of Sampras in the GOAT debate.

Federer is already the GOAT but Nadal will have something to say about that before its all said and done. I don't think Roger really cares that much about equalling Sampras' seven Wimbledon titles. But I think he desperately wants to retain the most Grand Slams of all time and he primarily sees this as a big opportunity to put a little more space between himself and Rafa.

Spot on. Especially with his age and recent Slam record, this might be his best chance at getting the 17th.

Oh my!

Federer broken in the first game of the match. Misses a routine volley smash at break point.

Federer looked awful in that game. I think Murray managed to break without hitting a single winner. They both look nervous so far.

Keep in mind that in Federer's semi-final against Novak, the roof was closed making it essentially an indoor match.

It may be a case of just needing a bit of time to tune the forehand and get over a bit of nerves.

Let's go Murray, it really seems like his game neutralizes a lot of Federer's strengths on grass.

Federer's ace called out, was actually in. Would have been up 15-0 if he challenged.

Now in a 0-30 hole trying to hold at 2 all.

I don't get this. So if Nadal wins more slams, he is suddenly the GOAT until the next guy. Goat always ends up being the stupidest debate.

In tennis though, I think its somewhat less stupid, especially since we're watching perhaps the best ever depth of players and the player widely considered to the be the GOAT in Federer.

However, Nadal has a better head to head record, has beaten him in GS finals on ALL three surfaces. He was all set to overtake him but then Novak came long and has bested him in all non-French GS finals. So it's become more of a paper-scissors-rock equation.

I didn't say that. GOAT involves numerous factors, one of which is undoubtedly the number of slams. And Roger clearly cares about that.

Brilliant set from Murray. He obviously has a clear plan against Roger and has been able to capitalize on it thus far.

A weird set. I felt like Fed outplayed Murray for long stretches but couldn't convert it into breaks. Meanwhile giving away that first service game really came back to hurt Federer.

Have you listened to espn, it's the opposite. Federer can only have so many momentum shifts McEnroe.

McEnroe has always called matches like they're entirely in the control of the player he thinks is better, that's nothing new.

If Murray could have got it to a tie break...aw man. Fed is the favourite but he's not immune to nerves. He's made a lot of unforced errors. But his first serve is holding up, which is key.
Murray has got to go for it and play without fear. He made a lot of cross court passing shots against Tsonga and Ferrer, when he's really on his game we see more of these going in than out. I think he needs to try and take control of the rallies with more power and aggression and accuracy, which isn't fuckin easy to do under the circumstances. But he's held his own so far and he does have another level to go up to, the question is will he...and then Federer he's still got more to offer. Fed is the favourite, but Murray, no matter what happens can take a lot from this.

Andy has to get his first serves in, Federer is absolutely destroying his 2nd serves.
