I really hate the American bias in tennis coverage. Federer is, without a shadow of a doubt, a greater player than Sampras. Whether he wins a 7th Wimbledon title or not does not change that. I mean, look at Pete's record at the French open. Federer was only robbed of at least 3-4 more French titles by the greatest clay court player of all time.

Are you referring to something in particular Saby? Other than mentioning Roger would match Sampras's WImbledon titles with a win, I don't think I've seen anyone implying Pete was the better overall player.

Nothing to do with your post. Just finished reading an article that painted the match as Federer's chance to edge ahead of Sampras in the GOAT debate.

Federer is already the GOAT but Nadal will have something to say about that before its all said and done. I don't think Roger really cares that much about equalling Sampras' seven Wimbledon titles. But I think he desperately wants to retain the most Grand Slams of all time and he primarily sees this as a big opportunity to put a little more space between himself and Rafa.
Spot on. Especially with his age and recent Slam record, this might be his best chance at getting the 17th.

Federer broken in the first game of the match. Misses a routine volley smash at break point.

It may be a case of just needing a bit of time to tune the forehand and get over a bit of nerves.

Now in a 0-30 hole trying to hold at 2 all.

I don't get this. So if Nadal wins more slams, he is suddenly the GOAT until the next guy. Goat always ends up being the stupidest debate.

In tennis though, I think its somewhat less stupid, especially since we're watching perhaps the best ever depth of players and the player widely considered to the be the GOAT in Federer.
However, Nadal has a better head to head record, has beaten him in GS finals on ALL three surfaces. He was all set to overtake him but then Novak came long and has bested him in all non-French GS finals. So it's become more of a paper-scissors-rock equation.

I didn't say that. GOAT involves numerous factors, one of which is undoubtedly the number of slams. And Roger clearly cares about that.

Someone should tell Federer his drop shot is awful.
And so he drops a great drop shot on the final two points of the 2nd set to win it. ALIVE!

The BBC commentary is predictably biased in Murray's favor. To a ridiculously entertaining extent.
Have you listened to espn, it's the opposite. Federer can only have so many momentum shifts McEnroe.

Murray has got to go for it and play without fear. He made a lot of cross court passing shots against Tsonga and Ferrer, when he's really on his game we see more of these going in than out. I think he needs to try and take control of the rallies with more power and aggression and accuracy, which isn't fuckin easy to do under the circumstances. But he's held his own so far and he does have another level to go up to, the question is will he...and then Federer he's still got more to offer. Fed is the favourite, but Murray, no matter what happens can take a lot from this.
