I thought about creating a write-up on Rondon after his time in the DSL, but didn't think he warranted it after hitting just .171 there. He did show good patience though and was singled out by Eddie Romero Jr as a guy to watch. Rondon's defensive potential apparently is closer to being realized than his hitting, but so far in the DSL he is exhibiting both.

Though he has yet to walk a single time after drawing 43 free passes in the DSL, Rondon has hit .308/.308/.500, clubbing 8 XBHs so far this ear in just 52 PAs. He's played exclusively at SS to date.

Through 125 PAs, Rondon is now hitting .258/.286/.400. The slugging figure is encouraging, but the complete lack of walks is quite disturbing. A 5/28 BB/K ratio won't get you very far. After a good start out of the gate in June, Rondon struggled to a line of .241/.282/.354 in July. He is playing pretty much every day though at SS, and has good tools there, so I'm sure he'll get a continued look in 2013 somewhere (perhaps repeating in the GCL, given he's only 18).

Rondon is now down to .230/.271/.354 through 187 PAs. Looks like the hot start was just that - merely a hot start.
