If he has any ex-Red Sox luck and performs like Reddick and Moss of late, he'll be a full-time starter, while Gardner's out.Darnell's Son is not going to be pleased about this. Here's hoping that Darnell himself is a full-time starter in the Yankees OF ASAP.

Of course, he will surely destroy Sox pitching this weekend.

Crap! I really wanted to wish him well in the future and, like JMDurron, hoped he'd catch on as a starter somewhere, but the Yankees? Here's hoping for 4/4 nights during blowouts
To be fair, my wish isn't entirely coming out of the kindness of my heart. Darnell's a good enough reserve OFer, but if he's starting for your team, your team has a problem. I want the Yankees to have that problem, which just happens to benefit Darnell and the Red Sox simultaneously, unless he pulls a Bartolo Colon on us.

Cashman did seem to be fixated on collecting guys from the 2004 team. But no, I doubt there's much more to this other than the MFYs thinking that McDonald is an upgrade. I expect we'll see him in the Doubie and Morales starts. Is it just me or do the Yankees like do to do this an inordinate amount of the time? It seems like at least half the time the Red Sox release a guy the Yankees put a claim on him. Does Cashman think it bothers us, or something? Is he trying to get information? Do I need to remove my tinfoil hat?

Glad to see Darnell catch on, but very sad to hear about the destination. McDonald should get plenty of playing opportunities against the left-handed pitchers that other teams save up for Yankee Stadium.
First Justin Thomas, now this?
Of course, he will surely destroy Sox pitching this weekend.
Blowback from ex-Red Sox outfielders could reach hurricane velocity this weekend.

Ironically, perhaps, his numbers show that he was equally anemic this season against lefties as he was against righties, as his batting average and home run count were identical versus both. Are you kidding me? Tom Caron stated after yesterday's Oakland game, Darnell McDonald AND the Yankees coming to Fenway this weekend! Yea right, and I am supposed to pine over a guy who had 18 hits in 84 AB's and was batting 214, and a OBP of 309 and a Slugging of 369, when he was DFAed. Sure he is obviously a nice guy but the numbers kind of tell the story.
Yup, 42 at bats against pitchers from both sides is a small sample, but Darnell's famed ability to hit lefties hadn't reared its head this season.
I'd prefer him to Lillebridge, lefty hitter and versatility be damned. But that's saying nothing.

The Sox have a chance to return serve to some small degree now that the MFY have released Matt Antonelli (Peabody MA, St. John's Prep, Padres' 1st-rounder in 2006). Yeah, he's sucked ass this year, even losing his OBP skills, but I could still see them signing him as a warm utility body for the Pawsox if Middlebrooks gets DL'd and they promote Andy Laroche or Pedro Ciriaco.

So does Darnell have to cut his dreads?
Most likely.

F that noise. That will make me sadder than him being on the damned MFY. Also, I will miss his bad-ass little daughter. Most likely.

He'll get picked up by someone.

Shame, but I hope no one is surprised.
He'll get picked up by someone.
He might be. He cut off his dreads for that?
He's only a pawn in their game.

I wouldn't be so sure, at least on a waiver claim. The MFY had last dibs when they nabbed him, meaning the other 28 MLB clubs all passed.
More likely he clears waivers and either accepts his assignment to their traveling S/W-B AAA club or gets inked to a minor league deal elsewhere. Too bad the OF logjam in Pawtucket is tighter than the one in Boston.
