Shaq Green-Thompson should probably stick to football.

He went 0-3 with 3 strikeouts today, and so far is 0-16 with 16 strikeouts. I don't know how that's possible.

You've got to try pretty hard to strike out every at bat.

Yep. 3K's for Shaq. This has got to be some kind of record for K's to begin a "professional" career, no?

Is it unfair for me to expect to see him in the majors mid to late next season?

Well you figure he's got a good shot to start 2013 at AAA. If he's playing well and some point in June or July Ellsbury goes on the 15 day DL, it might be possible.

Barring an injury, JBJ will start 2013 in AAA and is likely to get a cup of coffee during September when rosters expand.

With the way our outfielders get injured, sooner.

The way he is playing right now, he may force his way into the equation for the MLB roster as soon as next spring. Obviously, a lot has to go right for that to happen (He would need to be a starter in MLB for one thing)... but I'm not going to completely discount the possibility.

STORIES

PAWSOX

Game Story

The Pawtucket Red Sox powered up early Wednesday night on en route to a 7-4 win over the Red Wings.
The PawSox put two runs on the board before an out was recorded in the top of the first, as Pedro Ciriaco singled off starter Luke French and Jason Repko followed with a home run.
After Rochester scored a run in the bottom of the first, Pawtucket put its first two batters in the top of the second and Jonathan Hee cleared the bases with his first home run. Repko later tripled in the inning and scored on Lars Anderson’s single to make it 6-1.
Doug Mathis (6-6) gave up four runs in five innings and picked up the victory, while Junichi Tazawa struck out four in two innings to collect the save.

SEADOGS

Game Story

The Sea Dogs dropped their fifth straight, matching the skid they had to open the season.
Portland had a three-run lead in the ninth and a two-run lead in the 11th, and failed to hold either one.
"We've just got to keep battling," said Portland Manager Kevin Boles. "We have to keep battling."
The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats have the worst records in the Eastern League. The Fisher Cats improved to 34-49 and the Sea Dogs fell to 34-51.
The Fisher Cats were down a run and down to their last out when Kevin Howard ripped the first pitch he saw from Jason Urquidez over everything in right field for a two-run homer and walk-off win in the 11th.
Carl Crawford had a pair of singles and Jacoby Ellsbury a single for Portland.
Jackie Bradley Jr. added a double and three singles to pace Portland's best hitting night of the season.
"You watch the way he attacks the game, he's been a pleasure to be around," Boles said of Bradley. "He stands out on the field, and he's an aggressive player and it's been a lot of fun watching him."
The Sea Dogs had a season-high 18 hits, with home runs by Drew Hedman in the second and Dan Butler in the ninth.
But their four pitchers, starting with Stolmy Pimentel, also gave up 16 hits and four walks. Portland made three errors.
"We need to take care of the baseball behind our pitchers and our pitchers need to execute on the mound," Boles said. "We need to make sure we throw quality strikes and we can't work from behind."
The Sea Dogs scored single runs in the first and second.
Ellsbury and Crawford each flied to left to open the first inning, then Bradley and Bryce Brentz singled to right. Marquez Smith knocked in Bradley with a double down the left-field line.

Rehabbers

How many Boston guys suit up tonight at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium for Game 2 of the series remains to be seen.
Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury, the same two as Wednesday night?
Three? One?
Crawford and Ellsbury are itching to get back in the Red Sox lineup.
Ellsbury, in particular, after his five at-bats, sounded like he had little interest in waiting until after next week's All-Star break to join the big team, as had been speculated.
The Yankees, after all, are at Fenway for four games in three days starting Friday night.
"I'm looking to get back as soon as possible," Ellsbury said. "I've got to call them and tell them it went well today. I know they're (on a plane) right now. I'll talk to them either tonight or tomorrow and we'll go from there."
So does he think he'll be playing in Manchester again?
"I'm going to talk to the team," Ellsbury said. "It would be early in the morning so I'll know one way or the other early."
The word was that Ryan Sweeney, another in the long list of injured Red Sox outfielders who have missed time this season, also would be with the Sea Dogs tonight in Manchester.
Crawford, who hasn't played with the Red Sox this year as he rehabs from a left elbow injury, said he probably would play against the Fisher Cats tonight.
"I'm not sure about (Friday)," he said. "I don't know what's going to happen so we'll see."

SALEM

Game Story

Heiker Meneses and Chris Vazquez each drove in three runs as the Salem Red Sox pounded out a 12-3 Carolina League victory over the Carolina Mudcats on Wednesday to snap out of a five-game losing streak.
Matty Johnson and Michael Almanzar each had three hits, including a double, for the Sox.
Sean Coyle went 3 for 5 with two RBIs.
Every batter in Salem's starting lineup had at least one hit as the Sox outhit the Mudcats 19-10.
Salem scored five runs in the first inning on six hits and an error by Carolina catcher Tyler Cannon. The Sox posted another five runs in the fifth.
Salem starter Brandon Workman allowed three runs on nine hits. He did not give up a walk and struck out four in his six innings.
Michael Gleason closed out the win with three shutout innings of relief. He allowed one walk and one hit to earn his third save.
Giovanny Urshela drove in all three of Carolina's run. He rapped an RBI-single in the third inning and belted a two-run homer off Workman in the sixth.

DRIVE

Game Story

Rome continued its torrid second half, clubbing six extra-base hits en route to a 13-6 win over Greenville at Fluor Field Wednesday night.
The Drive’s largest crowd of the season – 6,624 – watched the Braves smack three home runs, two triples, and one double in winning for the 11th time in the second half.
Greenville manager Carlos Febles acknowledged it was a tough way to start a home stand. “It was not a good night for pitching. After they scored early, it seemed like we pushed them a little bit, but they kept scoring.”
Greenville manufactured a run in the second for an early 1-0 lead. Cody Koback beat out a bunt, then stole second and took third on a wild pitch. He scored with two outs when Dreily Guerrero beat out an infield grounder.
The lead didn’t last long as Rome scored four runs – three on a home run – to take a 4-1 lead in the top of the third.
Garin Cecchini followed Koback’s lead to score in the third. After getting hit by a pitch, he stole second – his team-high 29th of the season – and then moved up on a ground out. A passed ball allowed him to score.
Rome (11-3, 29-55) followed that with another multi-run inning, though. The Braves scored three in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead.

SPINNERS

Game Story

Designated hitter Seth Schwindenhammer tied a pair of club home run records, but the plummeting Lowell Spinners dropped their sixth game in a row and 10th in 11 games Wednesday night as the Auburn Doubledays pulled away in the late innings for an 11-5 victory.

Schwindenhammer capped a five-run first inning with a grand slam, but the Spinners managed only three hits in the game and committed six errors.
Schwindenhammer's second homer of the season was the 12th of his Spinners career, tying the club record set by Carlos Rodriguez in 1999. It was also his second career grand slam, matching the Spinners record set by Yamaico Navarro in 2007.
The Spinners loaded the bases in the first inning on walks to Deven Marrero and Aneury Tavarez and one of four Auburn errors. Another error allowed Marrero to score, and Schwindenhammer followed with his grand slam off Pedro Encarnacion.

Shaq Green-Thompson should probably stick to football.

He went 0-3 with 3 strikeouts today, and so far is 0-16 with 16 strikeouts. I don't know how that's possible.

Has he even fouled a ball off? or is it just 3 swings, 3 misses.
