Winning only one of four against this team would be unacceptable.

Let's pitch well AND hit today.

Lead us to the split, Doobie.

Game is at 4:10 pm ET.
Two leftys as probably starters: Felix Doubront vs. Jason Vargas.

This is the first career start against the Mariners for Doubront. Vargas tied a Seattle team record by allowing 11 home runs in the month of June.

Noteworthy plate appearances versus Vargas:

Adrian Gonzalez (11): .364 BA/.417 OBP/.545 SLG, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 walk

Kelly Shoppach (9): .444/.500/.889, 1 double, 1 home run, 2 RBIs, 4 strikeouts

Well, Doobie usually gets a ton of run support, so I'm hoping the Sox will remain true to form.

I can't believe the Sox have to go back in September for 3 more. Two games at Fenway & 7 at Safeco this year? Who makes this schedule?

Please start Shoppach over RH Salty. Also, n.b., today is the first day we will seriously miss Mac. I expect a lot from Ortiz, Ross, hopefully WMB.

Who cares? This is Seattle. If you can't give your W-L percentage a healthy boost playing these guys at home, away, or anywhere in between, you don't have any business playing in October.

Personally, my issue with it is that games starting at 10 pm are a complete pain to watch. I stayed up late last night, only for them to lose and then had to be up a little before 5 am for work this morning.

I would imagine that cherno's complaint also has less to do with the competitive advantage Seattle gains from the extra home games and more to do with everything else that stinks about them playing in Seattle.

As the Fonz would say, "Correctamundo".

This team, for whatever reason, traditionally doesn't play well in Seattle. This goes back at least 8-9 years. On paper, the Sox should have won at least 3 out of 4 in this series. Yet here we are. I agree, if the Sox are a true playoff team, they have to get it done. Maybe they turn it up a notch during the stretch drive. But historical, this team has struggled in Seattle.

Maybe if the Sox concentrated on small ball instead of trying to hit homers in a spacious, deep park, things would be different. But I'm grasping at straws. I really have no idea why the Sox play so poorly there, especially on offense.

Seeing Darnell go was was good stuff. Seeing Brent Lillebridge in there against a lefty...not so much.

According to TBS, the White Sox are .294 with RISP. Where do I find the stat for the Red Sox? I have looked a little, but have been having trouble with team-wide stats.
p.s. Yankees dead last in BA w/ RISP. And yet up at the top in the division. Go figure.

Sounds like Aviles has been kicked somewhere literally or figuratively. And he can hit lefties! Bad news indeed.

Maybe getting the nut punch before the game will save us from the walk off nut punch today.

The Phillies' asking price for Hamels is said to be a package of four to five prospects, tweets Buster Olney of ESPN.com. Olney adds rival executives believe such a package could be hard to come by.

Only if we are guaranteed to sign to an extension would I trade for him. Since we can't get a draft pick if he walks (as per CBA)

It's an old, old word filter. We haven't added a new filter in years, and occasionally delete some. For example:

ELJE
Mikey

You didna useta be able to do that. Coulda works, but could øf is verboten, unless you really work at it by adding that Teutonic twang.
