Minor league pitcher Kyle Simon and Gabriel Lino go to Philadelphia in the deal.

Phillies get catcher Gabriel Lino and pitching prospect Kyle Simon. O's 21st and 18th best prospects according to BA. Not a bad deal for the Phils.

O's in GFIN mode.

Can you GFIN by acquiring a pinch-hitter hitting .242 with five homers and 15 RBIs? I get that he was really good in interleague but still, he's 41.

"The Red Sox are pleased to acquire Dante Bichette, a proven veteran RBI man with excellent offensive career numbers," Red Sox general manager Dan Duquette said. "We're looking forward to having him on the ballclub to contribute down the stretch now and also to help us next season."

But much much much worse with Thome.

Well, those 5 HR and 15 RBI are in just 62 ABs. He has an .854 OPS.

Maybe I'm just blinded by my affection for Thome, but I like this trade. The Orioles could really use a postseason run. I can't blame them for gambling a couple of second tier prospects on Thome coming in and giving them above average production at DH. His presence in the clubhouse should be a plus, too.
