Free agent OF Marlon Byrd has received a 50-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

Tested positive for Tamoxifen, which I believe is a masking agent for PED's. Guess the Sox picked a good time to jettison him then...

Tested positive for Tamoxifen, which I believe is a masking agent for PED's.

Tamoxifin isn't a masking agent, but it is the most widely used/core component in the pct portion of a steroid cycle, which is run immediately after you cut off the juice and in order to bring one's natural test levels back up. Basically it's mandatory stuff among experienced/educated cyclers, and the one area of use that people trying to stay one step ahead of the testing game haven't found a way around yet (or at least not one that i'm aware of).

"I made an inexcusable mistake," the statement said. "Several years ago, I had surgery for a condition that was private and unrelated to baseball. Last winter, I suffered a recurrence of that condition and I was provided with a medication that resulted in my positive test. Although that medication is on the banned list, I absolutely did not use it for performance-enhancement reasons."
