How many rings does he have?
Two: his University High School and TCU class rings.

He's a total dick, but lets remember that for a few years, he was as good as any RB has ever been. LT had an untouchable second gear and could burn a secondary like no other. Always wanted a powderd blue 21 jersey for christmas.
Then he played the patriots.
I think that's part of the fascination: he was the best, and seemingly against all odds he's become the epitome of not-with-a-bang-but-a-whimper.

And the criticism he got for not playing in a playoff game with a sprained MCL is bullshit. No other RB in the league would have played with that injury either.

I don't get the hatred of Tomlinson. Other than a few unfortunate things he said towards the Patriots (most of them in moments after heartbreaking losses), he's never done anything in his career to suggest he's anything less than a class act. And everyone who has ever played with him or covered him seems to support that too. He was one of the best in his prime and I'm not going to think any less of him for a couple of comments he made in frustration.

I mean, he did play for the Jets.

But besides those times when he's been totally classless, he's always been a classy guy.

From everything I've ever read, his Charger teammates couldn't stand him and were happy to see him go. Rivers actually called it "a relief" when Tomlinson left town. And Gates said, "Sometimes you would get the sense that people felt bigger than the team."

The list is long but LDT's hard on for Belichick is enough for me. Between the gratuitous shot after the playoff game and then piling on after OpportunistGate, the guy showed himself to be a douche.I don't get the hatred of Tomlinson. I don't know how injured he was in that playoff game, but sitting on the bench with your jacket and helmet on and looking like you're a million miles away isn't quite what I'd be looking for if I were his teammate or coach. Especially in contrast to Rivers' gutsy performance that day.

LDT is a dickhead and a choker and that's going to forever be his legacy. His regular seasons in SD were excellent, but his playoff record is APPALLING; he had exactly 1 good playoff game in his career and it was in that loss at home to the Pats. Every other playoff game he was in was a massive disappointment. Trying to defend him for the AFCCG in Foxboro is silly; his own QB was out there playing on one leg and playing his ass off while LDT pouted on the bench.

It echoes the routine playoff disappointment of the Chargers team after excellent regular seasons. And it's excellent.Speaking after a playoff loss and bitching that the Pats mocked the dance that the Chargers used to mock their opponents, and then saying it's because they've got no class, just like their coach, is eminently hate-worthy for all eternity.

5 playoff teams in 6 years, averaging 11.2 wins a year. 3-5 in the playoffs and LDT performing poorly was a big part of that. Team was held under 100 yards rushing in 4 of those games, and in their biggest rushing game (08 win vs IND) Sproles was the big rusher.
Tomlinson talked big and couldn't back it up when it counted. He'll forever be overrated.

How do you know he was pouting? How do any of us even know it was him under all that gear?

I could have been anyone!

Didn't he wear that tinted shield because he was diagnosed with a migraine problem, and isn't that shield supposedly a huge advantage for a RB because defenders can't see his line of vision and anticipate?

He played the Patriots in his 5th game his rookie year. You didn't want that jersey for too long, huh?

To spend anytime checking into someone's throwaway line about liking LDT when he first came into the league is bizarre to me.
First day on the internet?
This is ALL a waste of time.

Doesn't LT realize he could have won a super bowl if he got his ass off of that training bike?

But it's the right answer. Ramses Barden, David Carr, Jernal Jernigan, Jimmy Kennedy and Tony Ugoh were among the New York Giants to win a Super Bowl title in February. Are they somehow more "clutch" or true "winners" because they got lucky?
The author of that article uses the above "logic" to back up LDT's preference for the HOF over a SB.
Ahem, the relevant comparable is not players who are a million miles away from the HOF. It's players who are either future HOFers or on the bubble.
My guess is that most of such players would pick a ring, but who knows? What I do know is that what David Carr would do means nothing.
I also know that SD fans love LDT and perhaps I would have if he had been on the Pats. Still, I'm very glad I never had to confront that one. Everything that man says sounds ridiculous to me.

Exactly. I remeber Charles Barkley saying that he would have rather had his career then Steve Kerr's, and I remember thinking that was unfair because Barkley had a far better career statisticly then Kerr. A better comparision would be i you asked Chuck if he would rather have had his career or David Robinson's. For LT, would he have rather had someone like Marshal Faulk's career.

"I would rather win the Super Bowl championship," he says.
"To get into the Hall, I think the number's 44, right? Forty-four writers, they vote. They decide you were great. ... but a Super Bowl, a championship, is something you earn.
"To win a Super Bowl championship on a team is something you control. You control if you go out and become a champion and win those rings. You have no control about what people think of you. Those 44 voters, they may like you, they may not like you. You can't control that. But you can control winning. And those 31 other teams try to stop you, and try their best to prepare to become champions themselves... but still, you can overcome, you'll have that opportunity to defeat them. And that feeling, to me, is so much more validating to your career."

And he's a complete shit-sack. He went to the Jets looking for a ring to cement his legacy, and thank god he didn't get what he wanted.

The guys is and was a d-bag, but I don't know if he really went to the Jets looking for a ring. I mean, I'm sure every player is looking for a ring and I'm sure LDT said that he felt the J-E-T-S were a great team.
I just don't know if he actually had a lot of teams looking to sign him in 2010. In 2008 in SD, he had 1,110 yards rushing on 292 attempts, both career lows at that point. Then in 2009 (again still in SD), he had 730 yards rushing on 223 attempts. At that point, he was over 30 years old and had put up close to 17,000 all purpose yards of wear and tear on his body.
