Deadspin posted this today: http://deadspin.com/...-atrocious-book

You can scan Mariotti's twitter feed for a few thoughts about it here: https://twitter.com/#!/mariottij

I think Mariotti is truly terrible and deserves any scorn heaped upon him. That said, Daulerio's attempts to spin his job offers to Mariotti (i.e., there was only a "slight" chance he'd want to hire Mariotti full-time) are irritating. Daulerio offered to engage a high-profile wife-beater as a free-lancer, and now that he's been turned down and insulted in Mariotti's e-book, is urging everyone not to hire the same guy? That's weak sauce (although I hope that it comes to pass that Mariotti remains unemployed - that'd be a well-deserved fate).

I hate Deadspin and everything about it, right down to Will Leitch's bowl haircut. Having Mariotti on there would be a waste anyways.

You do realize Leitch hasn't been the editor at Deadspin for a few years now? And while I agree Deadspin has plenty of flaws and issues, hating it and everything about it seems juuuuust a bit over the top. You sound a wee bit bitter for some reason.

As for the Mariotti story, it's hard for me to be unbiased as Mariotti is truly a piece of shit. But Daulerio kind of is too - I wish it was anyone else blasting Mariotti like this.

Leitch's fingerprints are still all over Deadspin, it's hard for me to take the site seriously.

Also, has anybody read Leitch's book "God Save The Fan"?

I want to know who says, "Jay Mariotti has an e-book? Where can I download that?"

Yes..it's really good. Are We Winning? was fantastic too.

You know that Deadspin was pretty uncontroversial (by it's reputation standards) until AJ took over. I mean if Leitch didn't have writing chops or credibility, he wouldn't have his gig with New York magazine.

Leitch has also publicly said he thinks Deadspin has gone too gossipy for his stomach. For the record, Daulerio was editor longer than Leitch.

No! "God Save the Fan" was terrible! It made me hate Will Leitch 30%-40% more. The whole thing is him ripping on ESPN, talking about how the Cardinals are god's gift to the world and the value of Rick Ankiel.

I started reading him when he had his column in SportingNews and I thought he was ok, so I checked out his book from the library. I read it, hated it, and now I hate him, mainly for his detest of ESPN (dude, nobody makes you watch it).

I don't really watch ESPN anymore and I still hate it. I feel a lot of people are that way nowadays. I also agree that "God Save the Fan" was solid. It's not the next great sports book but it was able to keep me entertained on the beach for a few days while I got my bronze on.

You no longer have to imagine

Simmon's Book of Basketball is the greatest thing I have ever read.
Bill James' NEW Baseball Abstract
Goldman & Lupica's "Wait Till Next Year"
Lot of Biographies, recently read Oscar Robertsons autobiography (don't read it), Wilt, Clemente, Drive
Loose Ball and Tall Tales by Terry Pluto

I liked God Save the Fan too. And I met Leitch once and he was pretty cool. Sorry he doesn't measure up to the great Mike Lupica who I've had lunch with twice and is an enormous fucking asshole.

Right, but do you get my point? Your response to this thread is way more about you than anything else.

What I got was you were insinuating that I have a poor taste in sports related literature.

No, I was insinuating that you and I don't like the same thing in sports literature, and that your opinion about someone unrelated to this story has clouded your judgement on it because he was mean to ESPN in a pretty good sports book.

I'm not sure if Daulerio intended this, (in fact I'd assume he didn't) but the part about Mariotti pointing at the Sox on the NYTimes as a potential blog entry actually drew a little bit of sympathy from me.
