Not sure if it's thread worthy, but did it last year and it got a good amount of replies. Nonetheless, it's that time of year again, with WWDC 2012 set to kick off today, at 10 A.M., PDT. Plenty of rumors abound from new retina display MacBooks, Mac Pros, potential new iMacs, along with previews of iOS 6 and Mountain Lion. Also possible (though unlikely) is an Apple TV SDK. Additionally, it also seems that Apple will finally cut the cord from Google and unveil their new Maps app.

Probably one of the more anticipated WWDCs. Should be very interesting.

I can't ever remember a WWDC where so many big announcements were expected.

Apple announcements seldom live up to rumors, so we should all self correct by about 20%, but at this point a host of new macs and iOS 6 for developers seems certain. Which is really exciting. This is like Christmas morning for nerds.

Oh yeah, they definitely won't announce everything that was rumored, but beyond a shadow of a doubt we're going to see iOS 6, new Maps, and at least 1 or 2 refreshes of Mac product lines. I'm skeptical that we'll see things like new iMacs and Airs on top of new MBPs and Mac Pros, but we'll see.

i'm just looking forward to the long ass download times for iOS 6 on my developer account. I hope they open up a few APIs so that I can write more than one app i've been stymied in to this point.

My son is going to a geek camp at unc chapel hill in a week. They'll be working on iPhone and iPad apps, but it's geared toward kids. I wonder if anything announced today will change his curriculum. I doubt it.

My guess is that Derek is wrong and new iMacs will be part of today's announcement. I'm also wondering if there will be "one more thing" without Steve Jobs. An apple HDTV would be cool.

I can't imagine them selling an HDTV for at least 12 months, although that doesn't mean they won't mention one before that. The ecosystem is not in place to justify the money it would take to roll that out.

There should be lots of updates to the existing Apple Tv product, and probably a lot of updates to iCloud as well.

I think they have to announce the ipad mini soon.

There is virtually no chance of the actual TV today. A new iPhone is more likely and that's also very unlikely.

iOS 6 should be lots of fun though.

Right. It makes sense that they would let the AppleTV evolve before the TV itself is released. If they allow developers access to it, they can launch a TV with an already established app base for it. In addition, if they have a few slam dunk apps, it could really help drive TV sales.

Likely not until October. iOS 6 is beta at this point and wouldn't go GM until the new phone is released.

If they have a reasonable price point on this thing, It's going to make a killing in the market.

Looks like they've killed off the 17" MBP, even the old chassis. Makes sense with the new one having 2880x1800 resolution anyway, but sometihng they just kind of skimmed over.

really awesome to see the iCloud stuff step up. All of your content across allof your macs is a really impressive prospect, but how much space can you get?

Edit: although that could be dangerous since my wife and I share a single iTunes account. "Honey why is Pornhub showing up on my browser as open??"

These usually run about 2 hours. Either iOS 6 is very underwhelming or they're extending this thing way beyond 2 hours.

It's also easier to run it longer than 2 hours when it's not just one person talking.

i don't think many of these get to two hours, typically around and hour to an hour and a half with a video at the end wrapping it all up and a band playing

They're not out to make bank on software and never have been. Cheaper = more adoption = more hardware sales. They're probably losing money on iCloud for the forseeable future, but if it puts a mac in every house, an ipad in every bag and an iphone in every pocket...

I don't use facebook often, but when I do it's usually to post a funny video or website. Integration from the iPhone is awesome because the facebook app is a nightmare.

Is that definitely happening? That's been my biggest complaint, i've had to have people store my email address in my contact and start a new message thread from that one to get it to all sync together. It's quite annoying.

But once it works...goddamn Messages is cool.
