Just saw Andrew Bailey at the airport. He's heading to Fort Myers to start throwing. Looks like Sox are gonna need him.

Taking a break from his rehab:

During a scheduled pitching session Friday, the Red Sox closer felt some fatigue in his right arm. That's different than the injury to his thumb that put Bailey on the disabled list in the first place, but considering the Red Sox were already accelerating Bailey's rehabilitation, they decided to slow it down.
"It didn't go perfectly," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said of Friday's session. "We're going to let him rest a little before he gets back on the mound. His arm didn't feel great throwing."

Interesting that this article on NESN.com, about our closer, doesn't get mentioned on SoSH.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Andrew Bailey!

I am going to choose to be gratuitously optimistic on this and say he has spring training tired arm. The part about an accelerated rehab schedule gives me a bit of pause before going all chicken little here.

So when do pitchers typically get a tired arm? I always assumed it was after throwing for at least a few days, more often a couple of weeks or more. This was his first day, wasn't it? Meanwhile, I watched Reddick show off his 5 tools against the Giants over the weekend, or at least a high fraction of all the tools. Yeah, yeah, give a guy a chance on a little stage like Oakland, etc., etc.

No, if you click through, he's been throwing for a while:

"Nothing major," Bailey said. "I threw two pens and felt like we just needed to throw a couple more before we take the next step. I need to just be confident in letting it loose before I go face hitters or anything. Nothing urgent. It just takes some more time."

And he also downplays Valentine's description - he says one day of rest and then back to throwing.
