X having himself a day. BB, 1b, 2b, HR
Kid is going to be a super star. Going to be interesting to see where he ends up playing, because it won't be at SS.

Now here's an unwritten rule question. I know what you mean, and you know I know what you mean, but we both know he won't go 9, and probably won't come out for the 6th. So do we get to talk about it?

He profiles as a corner infielder, which implies he might be a first baseman. If he fills out a lot (certainly a possibility), 1st base may be the only option. Should he fill out like that though, he'll be hitting 30-40 home runs a year with any luck.I agree with 3B, have also heard talk of the OF. 1st is something that i haven't heard about.

Marco Duarte up from Portland to take Melancon's spot.
Red Sox activate Ryan Kalish and option him to the PawSox. Ronald Bermudez to the 7-day DL to clear a roster spot.
Sea Dogs activate Peter Hissey and Ryan Dent from the 7-day DL, sending Shannon Wilkerson and Heiker Meneses down to Salem.
Greenville sends Tyler Wilson to Lowell, clearing a spot for the activated Noe Ramirez.

Good to see him off to 2 dominant starts in Portland, since his overall numbers in high A weren't that great before the promotion. I wonder if ex-teammate Brandon Workman, who's quietly having a good year, is in line for a promotion soon as well.Drake Britton has been stellar today, 5 IP, 3 H, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts, no earned runs.

Also Sean Coyle:
2011 23.6% k% 12.9% bb%
2012 28.9% k% 07.1% bb%.
Is he even in our top 20 with guys like KDLC and new incoming talent?
Hes hitting under .200 since 4/23.

Id hope Workman would get promoted when JBJ and Shaw do. When is the all star break anyway? And I say this tongue in cheek, but if Xander keeps it up does he end up in Portland to? Theyve already shown they arent afraid to be aggressive with him.

Xander is only 19, I'd be shocked if he doesn't spend the whole season in Salem.

Guess I learned something.

Salem has a bunch of players to be sent to Portland after the first-half stretch run for the CAR playoffs is over.
JBJ and Shaw of course, but also Ibarra, Celestino, Workman, Couch, and Olmsted. Barnes could probably be put in that group, too.

JBJ needs to be promoted already. It's a joke for him right now.
There is a week left in the 1st half of Salem's season. I believe we will see promotions once the week is out (or once the chance of the 1st half title is lost).

PAWSOX
Lars in the OF and other notes
Coming into the season, Lars Anderson had never played an inning of the outfield in professional baseball. As 2012 has progressed, however, he finds himself manning left field more and more regularly for the PawSox.
Sunday was Anderson’s 13th start in left for Pawtucket, with eight of them coming since May 26.
It’s a challenge Anderson has enjoyed.
“I’ve been having a blast playing left. When I see my name on the lineup in left, I’m pretty happy. It’s fun for me,” he said. “Everything’s new, man. It’s like putting on a new pair of glasses; I’ve got different lenses on the game. I just like being out in the grass all day.”
It’s been a constant process of adjustment for Anderson, learning to read how the ball comes off the bat from a different angle and a different depth. Even ground balls and pop-ups look different in the outfield, let alone fly balls and line drives.
“For me, the hardest thing has been getting a read on a ball when a guy, especially if he has pop, takes a big swing and it looks like he hit the ball well, but he was jammed or it’s off the end, and you’ve got to come in on it,” he said. “That’s a tough read. But talking to other guys who play outfield, that’s unanimously a tough play.”
Manager Arnie Beyeler said left field is about a lot more than just catching the ball.
“He goes out there and catches the ball,” Beyeler said. “But it’s knowing where to throw the ball, keeping the double play in order, game situations. He hasn’t gotten a chance to throw a guy out at the plate yet. He hasn’t had a guy tag up on him yet. We can’t simulate that. We’ve just got to keep throwing him out there until he can experience those things. That’s why we do it.”
Even while he’s been learning a new defensive position, Anderson has had a nice run offensively over the last two weeks. Since May 27, he’s hitting .349 with four homers and 10 walks.
As usual with Anderson, it’s about straddling the line between patience and passivity at the plate.
“It can become chronic. It’s a bad situation if you’re too passive,” he said. “When you’re going good, everybody in the press and the fans are saying, ‘What an approach. He gets on base, he sees pitches.’ Then when you’re going bad, it’s, ‘He’s not aggressive enough. He’s too passive.’ So it’s kind of a double-edged sword.”
SEADOGS
Game Story
Mark Minicozzi belted a three-run homer to tie the score, and Ryan Cavan drove in the winning run with a two-out double as the Squirrels quieted the crowd of 6,437.
The rally prevented the Sea Dogs from sweeping the three-game series.
"Our guys played well this series," Portland Manager Kevin Boles said. "It's unfortunate we didn't close out today, but we had a good home series."
The Sea Dogs, who start a six-game road trip Tuesday night against the Bowie Baysox, won four of six games during their homestand.
"Our guys are playing better," Boles said. "They're working hard, and we're starting to see some signs of improvement."
Portland wasted a solid pitching performance from Drake Britton, a left-hander who threw 5 1/3 innings of shutout baseball to extend his scoreless streak to 10 1/3 innings since joining the Sea Dogs a week ago.
"I thought Britton was outstanding today," Boles said. "He had a real quality mix. He had a three-pitch mix. He attacked the zone, and he was very efficient."
Britton, who started the season with Salem in the Class A Carolina League, limited the Squirrels to three hits before leaving the game in the top of the sixth with the Sea Dogs ahead 2-0.
Portland opened the scoring in the first inning. Jeremy Hazelbaker led off with a walk, moved to second on a passed ball and scored when Juan Carlos Linares pulled a double into the left-field corner. With two outs, Matt Spring lined a single to center, scoring Linares.
The Sea Dogs had a chance to add to their lead against Richmond starter Craig Westcott, but they stranded six runners in the first four innings.
"Wescott worked out of a couple of jams," Boles said. "When he needed to make pitches, he did. We chased a little bit out of the zone. Our strike zone management was a little suspect at times."
Portland took a 3-0 lead in the sixth when Derrik Gibson led off with an opposite-field double into the right-field corner and scored on Hazelbaker's two-out single to right.
It wasn't enough.
SALEM
Game Story
Brandon Jacobs and Xander Boagerts hit back-to-back homers to start the eighth inning to lift the Salem Red Sox to a 3-2 Carolina League victory over Potomac on Sunday afternoon at Pfitzner Stadium.
The Sox were down 2-1 going into the eighth.
Potomac's Blake Kelso singled, stole second, then third and scored on an RBI-groundout by Chris Marrero in the first inning.
Salem tied the score on an RBI-double by Carson Blair in the fourth inning.
But the P-Nats retook the lead with an unearned run on a throwing error by Bogaerts in the fifth.
Ryan Mattheus, in Potomac on a major league rehab assignment, took over for former Salem star Jimmy Barthmaier on the mound to start the eighth inning.
The Sox teed off on Mattheus with Jacobs hitting his third homer and Bogaerts following with his eighth on consecutive pitches.
Bogaerts went 3 for 3 with a walk and a double to go with his homer.
DRIVE
Game Story
Hickory’s Drew Robinson led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a double and came home with the game-winning run on Jeremy Williams’ single as the Crawdads defeated the Greenville Drive 4-3 Sunday.
Greenville claimed a 3-0 lead in the third when David Renfroe hit a two-run single with the bases loaded, and Boss Moanaroa added a sacrifice fly.
Drive starter Noe Ramirez was flawless. He threw five perfect innings and had five strikeouts.
Hickory got its first baserunner with two out in the sixth when Jhonny Gomez singled off reliever Jason Garcia. The hit tipped off the glove of Greenville third baseman Renfroe.
The Crawdads pushed across three unearned runs in the seventh. Trever Adams’ two-out, two-run single tied the game.

Why is there no chance they rush him? Why are you so sure a promotion would be rushing him?Didn't think I deserved the attitude but thanks! No chance they rush this kid, he's not getting promoted. Maybe he starts there next season.
You are getting too hung up on Bogaerts age. Players earn or do not earn promotions based on performance. (I am defining performance very broadly here to include the combination of statistical output as well as scouting based measures of performance.)
The argument for Bogaerts deserving a promotion this year is based around the idea that he has seamlessly transitioned to A+, is showing improved offense via a reduction in strikeouts, and is showing no real drop offs in any form of offensive output. Or, even more simply, he's having one of the top 10 performances for an under 20 player in the history of the Carolina league and could benefit from playing at a level that might really challenge him. I don't expect him to get promoted with the first wave of midseason promotions when Bradley and possibly others will get moved up. (I'd like to see him really solidify his gains in Salem for a bit longer before a promotion.) But, I do think it is very likely he'll get called up toward the end of July or early August to give him a month or so of AA experience this year. There certainly isn't anyone in the Portland infield that would get in the way of a Bogaerts promotion.
Finally, the idea that he maybe starts in AA next year is silly. Barring his performance falling off a cliff or his starting next season injured, he will start next season at AA or above.

There isn't anybody at Pawtucket blocking him either (even Iglesius).
If there is one thing we are learning about Xander, it is that standard rules do not apply to him. The organization has stated that they have certain mile stones that a player must reach as far as skill set improvement before they can be promoted. When he hits those milestones he will move up...regardless of age.
