Just when you think the City of Glendale can't get any dumber...

TORONTO -- Details of a tentative US$170-million deal to sell the Phoenix Coyotes to prospective owner Greg Jamison include a 20-year lease that will pay Jamison's group an average of $15 million a season to manage Jobing.com arena.

Meanwhile, the team will pay the city approximately $13 million in rent over the duration of the agreement. The city also expects to make $60 million in ticket surcharges and between $4 million and $10 million in fees from naming rights.

So the net is that Jamison gets paid $2m per year by Glendale to own the team and "manage" the arena, Glendale continues to be delusional in expecting $60m worth of ticket "surcharges" to even walk through the door, and the team will be renamed the Arizona Coyotes.

It's the freak show experiment that will never end.

It isn't really even the league's fault. They were ready to move the franchise to Winnipeg a year ago. The NHL gave the City of Glendale an ultimatum of paying the league $20 million in operating expenses the league lost last year and told the city to pay up, or the Coyotes were gone. The City of Glendale paid up, to everyone's surprise, and appear like they're still content on lighting the taxpayers money on fire by trying to keep the team. More power to them, I suppose.

Buccigross just tweeted this:

John Buccigross@Buccigross

AHL said its officials made a mistake in allowing a fluke overtime goal to stand in Game 3 of the Calder Cup final.. Play was offside.

Can you imagine if this happened in the NHL during the Cup finals? Would that play even be subject to review?

Wait...how was that offsides? No one from Norfolk touched the puck. Am I missing something painfully obvious here? Does the AHL employ a no touch-up offsides or something?

It's offsides if the puck goes in the net. You can't score during a delayed offsides. If it hadn't gone in, play would have continued as normal.

In a game of equal importance a couple years ago, we lost our men's league final 1-0 on a goal like that. It was painful.

Dumb rhetorical question but here goes....they said the goal was no good and should have been disallowed. How bout commencing play with a faceoff at center ice and play the OT onward. The teams are still in Toronto as it was Game 3 and Game 4 is schedued for there. It would be the right thing to do and it would also be a cool thing as the OT could be played until there is a winner...then have a 30 minute intermission and start Game 4. Hey its the AHL, why not experiment.

To be clear, the goal in my game was legal, no one was offside. But it was the same thing, a dump in shot that took a bad hop off the glass and went in.

According to Darren Dreger, New Jersey has elected to hold on to their first round pick this year. Weak draft, second to last pick...why not forfeit this one? What's Lou waiting for?

That or he foresees a significant change to the ELC structure for high picks in the new CBA and wants to get one more super-cost controlled prospect, but I haven't heard anything remotely suggesting that the rookie contract would change much.

Stevie Y wastes no time picking up a goalie.

Anders Lindback, Kyle Wilson and a 7th round pick go from Nashville to Tampa in exchange for Two 2nd round picks, a 3rd round pick and Sebastian Caron.

Blues sign Jackman to three-year contract

St. Louis Blues defenseman Barret Jackman, currently the longest-tenured athlete among the major sports teams in the city, won't be going anywhere when free agency begins on July 1.
The organization announced Monday that Jackman has been signed to a new three-year contract. Financial terms were not released, but media reports indicate it's worth $9.5 million over the length of the deal.
Jackman, 31, dressed in 81 games for the Blues last season recording one goal, 13 points and 57 penalty minutes while tying for second on the club with a plus-20 rating and leading the team overall in blocked shots (153) and shorthanded time on ice per game (3:26).

Ugh. I told my season ticket rep with the Blues that I would cancel if they brought Jackman back, thinking it would never happen.

Even though it's a decent price, he's a traffic cone on defense, and he always seems to pick the absolute worst time to make something happen on offense and ends up creating odd-man rushes the other way.

If true that is an incredibly horrific trade for Anaheim. I mean I think Ryan Miller is a very good goalie, but not that much better than Hiller to substantiate trading Bobby Ryan as well to get him. If true than Bob Murray was making a completely horrific deal.
