I thought the way Ireland handled that was lame. First off, the Colts made a push for him and it appeared they were pretty dogged in their pursuit. So instead of telling him what appears to be the truth, which is we're not on a 1 year plan and we'd rather have the picks, and oh by the way, the Colts wanted you really bad...They show the replay of the holding, act like one preseason play mars the guy for life, and start the conversation by saying "the rumor is true", and then go on to tell him about his inconsistent play.
Hey Jeff Ireland, you're not cutting a guy who needs to work on his skills in the offseason so he might get another shot next year. He's going to another team to start games in the NFL. No need to make the trade sound like it was his fault.
Although I do like how they cut the guys down to 75. The position coach or assistant or whoever calls the guys and says, you're being cut today, bring your stuff to the office. Then when he gets there the GM or Coach starts the conversation by saying, you understand you're being cut, right? Then goes into the good/bad/whatever regarding the player/decision/etc.
