That's one way to avoid that 27% HR/FB rate.

This is stunning to say the least. If a guy was in the minors with these numbers he would be looking for a different line of work soon. How Clay can post this along with that and a 9.00 ERA makes me have to sit down for a moment.

Believe it or not, this is one of the moer hopeful things I've seen yet--I added an explanation to the post in the thread, but the punchline is that this is the first thing found that is almost certain to regress to towards the mean.

The half-empty version is that it's hard to imagine that there's that much noise, so this would only mean he might only really suck, just not historically suck.

Sweeney in CF? Now that's interesting.

Nava in LF? Not so much, but better than anywhere else, I guess.

Done--and leave texture on the different mechanics and movements to your greater erudition in the matter.

(and it looks 2009 wasn't so great either...)

You sir, have a lot of balls posting content in a main board thread.

The 2-1 pitch to Kipinis was the first low away strike on the black almost at the knees I have ever seen from this rotation. Buchholz is 25 outs from a perfect game...

opted not to bump the Buchholz thread, but I came upon quite the statistic over on FanGraphs: Clay's HR/FB%

It's 27%.

One in four fly balls put in play have left the park this season. One in four times the batter gets a hit where he really gets under the ball, it leaves the park.

His fly ball rate is around 32%, so one in eight hits or so has left the park.

I wouldn't have thought that was even possible.

While those numbers don't mean much to me (I'm not that smart), your explanation of said numbers does. Especially since it's gives credence to what we thought a couple of Clay starts ago, which is that his "bad" pitches just seem so much more damaging.

It also maybe gives me hope that everything is just going wrong for the team at the moment, and everything will even itself soon. (I'm choosing to ignore the alternative that Clay just sucks and is unlucky)

So thanks Rev.

Apropos of nothing...

1. Cleveland's uniforms looks like they were designed for a generic team in a commercial.

2. There are a LOT of empty seats in these stands. Haven't seen anything like it since, maybe, September of 2006.

3. Buchholz. Uh ohlz.

It's gotten to the point where I expect to be down by 3 runs after 2 innings, so 1 run down I barely notice.

I'll grant you that the scarecrow would be more likely to take a walk, but Crespo had marginally better range to his left and the ability to hit the ball literally dozens of feet.

Ray Bolger had chunks of Cesar Crespo in his otherwise-cellulosic stool.

Bobby doesn't realize we have a pitching coach either...the first thing I have agreed with him on in weeks!

I hoped he just pulled him there and said "hell no, this is not happening again, pack your bags and go play rock, paper, scissors with Melancon on who gets to come back first".
