Mota is blaming his positive test on kiddie cough medicine, which is the basis for his appeal.
"Players are responsible for what they put in their bodies. Guillermo understands that," agent Adam Katz said. "A 100-game suspension for taking a children's cough medicine that contains trace amounts of a prohibited substance, which is what happened here, is severe and unfair and does not reflect the intention of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. We will appeal it."

Here's what we know: The drug was Clenbuterol, which according to the oh-so-trustworthy-looking Internet site isteroids.com, is used as a fat reducer. As a Giants fan, I can state with authority that he was clearly not taking enough of that one.

Honestly, if Mota gets any part of the suspension overturned, it just makes the MLB drug policy look ridiculous and impotent. Mota's not even arguing that he didn't have the clenbuterol in his system, just that it was "accidental."

The union should distribute lists of approved medications and supplements, btw, to prevent these sorts of accidents.
