Waiting for the SoSH orthopedes to make the diagnosis.....
Ken Singleton says it's a twisted knee and he will miss a few days.

It really would be a shame. You have to respect Mo
Don't "have to do" nothing.
Fuck him.

Why was Mariano River chasing BP fly balls?
I'd be much happier about this if it was Arod or Jeter.
Rivera is a good guy, but yes, it would have been nice to see that vehicle run A-Rod down (going really fast),

Yes yes I know I know. It was more my opinion of what I think the Yankees might do.

Mariano examined by KC physician ... Twisted right knee ...
Those KC physicians aren't the best in the business for no reason...great diagnosis.

Phelps is starting, but when Pettitte returns, and if Hughes can give them innings that aren't completely awful, then Phelps is an intriguing guy to promote to higher leverage innings, to replace Robertson if he ultimately gets the closer's gig. Which I suspect happens sooner or later.

Robertson is definitely their stone cold Daniel Bard relief ace, and before Soriano's lost 2010 it was the plan that Soriano could close in Rivera's absence. But he's brittle and this year hasn't been spectacular (10 hits and 6 walks in 8IP). Soriano could just as easy spit the bit in the 9th, or find another ding and dent in his arm.

I think this injury gives them the excuse to move Hughes back into a setup role, a move that was overdue anyway.

I've seen Josh Beckett busting his ass like that during BP many, many times and wondered when he was going to injure himself.
Betcha Beckett stops doing that now...
I refuse to believe Beckett has ever busted his ass.

That's got to be his career, right?
Unless he chooses not to retire and come back in 2013. Pretty sad, it's going to feel real weird next time we play the Yankees and someone not named Rivera is closing.

Rivera's season -- and perhaps his career -- may have ended during batting practice on Thursday. The initial diagnosis on Rivera's right knee is a torn anterior cruciate ligament, Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters after Thursday's game in Kansas City. Rivera is expected to get a second opinion, but the initial news is not good.

No way he is set up man to start. They may let him do the 7th, and if he does well he moves up to set up man. No guarantee he returns to 2009 form.

Well I'd consider the 7th inning a setup role and that was what I meant. I'd call Robertson and Soriano both setup guys for Rivera, so this now opens up one of those slots since one of them will be closing. If you consider the 7th inning middle relief, then yeah, he'll be in middle relief.

Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, Fransisco Cordero, Jim Johnson and Fernando Rodney. It tolls for you.
Rays already lost Farnsworth. I think Rodney's in the clear. And the Jays lost Santos for a bit too. So really Jim Johnson is the only closer that's healthy right now in this division.

Mariano Rivera could not hold back tears when talking about his torn ACL. He started crying when he said he felt like he let down his team.
He is all class. I really feel bad for him.
