Sox facing Tommy Milone, a soft tossing lefty they've never seen before. He came over from the Nats in the Gio Gonzalez deal. Billy Beane up to his old tricks of dealing away guys when they get good and winning some games early in the year with pitchers teams have never seen. Not Beane's fault having to go this way with his crap stadium and organization, but let's rough up this kid, who is also a University of Second Choice guy. He has done well so far. Enough is enough though. Clay re-finds it tonight.

Milone should be the kind of pitcher that guys like Aviles, Shoppach, and Ross absolutely tee off against. We'll see how they do with no exposure to him though. The rest of the league hasn't fared well so far, so the book on him probably isn't very helpful at this point.

Interesting thing about Milone is that he walks no one. Maybe this Billy Beane's devilish new approach: reverse-Moneyball. (Meaning, does it even make sense to be extra-patient and prioritize OBP against pitchers who live around the plate? Or does that just always leave you in a pitchers' count?)

Closer to the truth than some may think. Clay hasn't exactly been dominating. With other options around the corner, Miller, Cook, Dice K, Clay should be hearing footsteps. Prove us all wrong tonight Clay, step up big.

I, for one, am surprised that Clay to the bullpen hasn't been talked about. If he sucks again, why wouldn't they make him into an eighth inning guy and see if Cook can start?

Nothing. Buchholz should get to make mistakes well into May before panic sets in. I'm looking for a gradual increase in velocity and greater success in keeping the fastball down. Buchholz can still be a good #3 starter without the changeup, provided he regains command of the fastball and cutter. The curve is back to its glory days, so he can throw a lot more of them.

It's a cue for action if this weak-hitting team roughs him up. I would put him in the bullpen and get Aaron Cook into the rotation. Not sure whom we can send down or unload.

With most of his troubles coming early I don't see that transitioning well to a relief role. It looks like his release point is a little lower than past years eventhough he's still generating decent movement. I hope he gets his form back. Tonight's a good place to start.

I hope they've done homework on cleanup guy Yoenis Cespedes and know he's a potential Mass Pike type. Old killer Mark Ellis is gone, Kurt Suzuki's still there, Reddick bats third. Coco is Coco. Not a lot more. Looked it up but not saying where the A's are team hitting-wise.

Youk needs a bunch of those little piles of burning stuff on his body. My TKD instructor applied them to my back years ago. I forget why now...some little injury I recovered from. Of course he also gave me some awful stuff to drink. It contained a lot of alcohol, I can tell you that.
