It is officially a winning streak. My sons have never known a world where the Red Sox can lose. Keep it that way for another day.

Win.

WGN must have changed their programming. I could swear that had at least one more Sox/Sox game scheduled. Not seeing it now. Harrelson was a great name dropper last night: Yastrzemski and I were hanging out, Yaz, Yaz, Yaz; I talked to Fisk in the locker room before the game... He never mentioned Joe Foy or Mike Andrews though.

Did you notice the way he dropped "Red" in front of Sox so that it seemed as though Fisk's great career was solely as a White Sock?
Actually, especially when the White Sox are losing, Harrelson and Stone are about 1000 times more listenable than Remsillo, even with all of Hawk's quirks.
Last night was very cheering for all of us rooting for the Nippon Oiler. I look forward to seeing him more often, not necessarily in blowouts.

I was in Chicago last night on business and was unable to get to the game. Halfway through the game, I went into three bars, none of which had the Sox-Sox game on. The last one was a sports bar and had the draft, the Devils-Panthers game and the golf channel on. I asked them to put the Sox game on and was met with incredulous stares.

Not much of a Pale Hose town that Chicago.

What, Carlton Fisk played for the Red Sox too? :buddy: Harrelson and the other (harmless) guy aren't that bad, I agree.

Remy and Orsillo must be getting worse from all I'm hearing. I said it before, but the Red Sox ought to make Jon Miller an offer he can't refuse. He's the second best lead announcer for the Giants! But, he'd probably turn it down, Bay Area native and all.

You needed to go to the South Side. And then you'd have the added benefit of getting the crap beaten out of you.

Not so much on the northside or downtown, but once you get to the southside neighborhoods, they've got a pretty solid fanbase.

I'm still surprised the game wasn't on, though. I'm walking distance from Wrigley and in the bars around here, if the White Sox are playing, they'll be on. Granted, in most places you won't be able to hear either them or the Cubs over the dance music, but they'll be on.

Yeah, but you can usually avoid the worst parts if you're not looking to shoot dice or anything.

Stay away from any hot looking woman named Doris on the South Side. she'll be your downfall.

Little known fact: Jim Croce initially wrote "If you go down there you better best beware of a man named Bob Montgomery's Helmet Head." Only later after actually visiting the South Side of Chicago, did Croce opt for the revised "Leroy Brown".

I am pretty sure he had settled on bad bad Bobby Jenks for a while before making the final edit, because that version was too depressing.

Growing up, he was weirdly always referred to as "the late Jim Croce." Like on K-Tel ads on Ch. 38.

Regardless, love the Croce meme.

I watched this last night too. It was like I was in a trance but very aware of the realism of a 4 game streak. The horror of the 10 losses didn't hurt so much as the decisions that led to those 10. It was as if losing allowed perspective and winning unhinged me.

Very weird.

First of all, congratulations! Truly a spectacular new phase of your life. Best of luck to you, your wife, and new family.

Second of all, this reminds me of the day my son was born, also here in Minnesota. It was like the 3rd day of the Iraq war and it was during the wee post-midnight hours. For some reason, no one bothered to think about turning the tv off during the many hours my wife was in labor, so between contractions I was riveted to nonstop coverage of embedded reporters riding tanks into Iraq and fighting the war. Live. On tv. Nonstop. Truly surreal, fascinating, and fucked up stuff.

Thirdly, I love how the birth of your sons coincides with a very nice little winning streak for the Red Sox. If that's not divine intervention or miraculous or some such shit, nothing is. Keep up the good work!!

Having just moved to Chicago last summer, I am on my way down there after work to see the game. I brought my Red Sox cap with me, and a bunch of people in the office looked at me like I was crazy, and told me to take a cab to and from the park, and definitely not to go out drinking on the South Side after the game.

I'll show 'em.

From Wikipedia: Croce took a strong interest in music at a young age. At five, he learned to play his first song on the accordian "Lady of Spain."

Lesser-known fact, he had the 'stache at age 5.

You're fine on the train. There'll be plenty of other people in Red Sox gear as well.

You're also fine drinking afterward, as long as you stick to Bacardi at the Park or Cork & Kerry. If you want to wander to any of the bars beyond those places, then the Red Sox gear might draw some unwanted attention, but still probably not. There aren't a whole lot of other convenient options, anyway.

The "Comiskey is unsafe" mindset held a lot more water when the park was still in the shadow of the Robert Taylor homes.

Yeah, after almost a year here I would say that the city (for the most part), is safer than I was led to believe. I live in Avondale, and most people I run into think even that's too sketchy.

Of course, the fact that I came here after a year in St. Louis might be affecting my opinion. Chicago is way, wayyyy nicer.
