Lambert's one of my favorite NHL writers, partly because I knew him long before his Puck Daddy job and went to a few Sox games with him, and mostly because he's such a blatant troll that it's fun as hell to watch him say something intentionally inflammatory and then retweet all the people who piss and moan at him about it and still after all these years haven't caught onto his gimmick yet.

I know there's a few Gaslight fans in RMPS, so I'll post this here.

Their new album comes out July 24th, and this is a sample of the first single "45."

I guess on Monday they're going to release the entire song.

I wasn't a huge fan of American Slang - but '59 Sound and Sink or Swim are two of my favorite albums of the last 10 years or so. This new album (based on one 30 second clip) sounds awesome.

I just don't think his gimmick is funny. He's a little weasel, which is too bad, because he can be very reasonable and a solid dude to hang with in person.

Well, this year was good. Up until the playoffs. What can you do, shit happens. Shit no one Laichs. You can either be a man, or you can cower like Turtleschew or TurtlesDad.

Now, it is time to Ward off those postseason demons, step Bäckström the ledge, take in the blooming Green of spring, and open the beer fridge wide, men. Upon those brews one must lower the hammer, lick the hangover, and get a big sub from Carl's, son. I know that's what I'll be doing. Holy Schultz, it's summertime, and we are golfing.

Go Kings.

You start skating again yet?

Which just means it's time for Valentine to open his fat mouth again and derail the momentum.

Keep your baseball related bitterness out of here pal.

Chicago re-signed Emery to a one year deal a little bit ago so that ship may have sailed.

If they're gonna let Ray Emery stop them from getting a goalie that can win them a cup, their season is over now.

I just can't get myself worked up over anything concerning the Bruins right now. It was a tough series to lose, but it's not like they rolled over -- they went out and competed in every game and just didn't get a couple lucky bounces their way, Washington did. It also didn't help that I felt like the Bruins were playing the Capitals AND the Refs for most of the series.

Additionally, I just feel like this team is so easy to root for and I love the direction they are headed that it's really tough to be upset about anything. We're enjoying the best run of success this franchise has seen since the late 80s and maybe even since the 70s. Sure no one player is going to be perfect, but the sum of the parts is pretty fucking awesome. I have zero complaints about the team, management or any aspect of the franchise. Zero. Not many teams come back from winning the Cup to have a long run the following year, it's just really difficult to do. Some franchises don't recover for years - the Bruins are setup to be, IMO, the best team in the East next season. Hard to complain about that.

EDIT: Late 80s, not late 90s. The late 90s sucked.

Sounds about right to me. I still think of last year's team as the 2001 Patriots. A team on the rise, being put together with a plan, sneaking a title just a touch before they were ready to unleash their full fury on the league. The next 3-5 years, with the core of talent they have, and the upper management seeming trustworthy, I like their chances to take home another Cup, if not 2. I'm on board.

What division are you in? I'm playing with a bunch of older guys I play with in the winter in the 30C IIRC. Going to be a long week of four days, likely five, of skating. Can't complain though.

We're in one of the 25C divisions I believe. One game Friday, 2 Saturday. Looking to make our first playoffs in 3 years.

We have one Wednesday, one Thursday and one Saturday then hopefully playoffs. A solid squad so I'm optimistic about it. Really depends on how the goalie does.

That sucks that you don't play Friday, it's the best night there for post-game drinking. I'll likely be there Thursday night though watching my other team play and enjoying some beverages, let me know when/where your game is and I'll come heckle you.

According to a co-worker, I take the "mullet approach" to Business Casual when we're in the office. Dress shirt/tie on top, nice jeans on the bottom. So I'm business from the waist up, and casual from the waist down.

Is it just a total shit show over there, or do they police the drinking? They're usually surprisingly strict about leaving the designated area with a beer, which is too bad, as you can just wander around and see 5 different games going.

They're usually fairly diligent, but the general upstairs area is pretty cool. I do wish they'd let you wander around and watch all of the games with beer, but they're not really known for their open-mindedness or forward thinking there. It's still a blast though.

And it's up to 6 games now. There's another rink.

You can't see the 6th rink from the concourse though, can you? They were putting it in when I was doing the Bay State Games last summer, I thought it was accessible only through rink 1 or whatever.

Yeah you can, it's way on the other side of rink 1 but the concourse runs over there too. Getting in to the actual rink to play is a lot harder (gotta go through rink 1) but watching isn't bad at all. The ice is actually best in the new rink, they keep it nice and cold in there.

Yeah its gotten bad at times over there, last month during one of our playoff games they had to put a cone over a spot because the floor was exposed.

Is anyone else really awkward when talking to strangers on the phone? I don't know what my problem is but I get the damn shakes when I have to call someone new. I think it stems from my childhood when, before my voice changed, I was constantly mistaken for my mother whenever I answered the phone and later, after my voice changed, was constantly mistaken for my dad. I just stopped answering the phone altogether so now I'm a damn nutjob when it comes to using it and prefer being social in person or completely anti-social through the internet/e-mail. I can't handle the middle ground.

I have the exact same problem. Usually I just don't call as a result. I never answer the phone at my parents' place, and I don't answer my phone if it's not a number I recognize, no matter the circumstances.

Give me email any day, at least I can fake sincerity there and I know who it is before I have to engage them in conversation.

I'm like that when I'm back home too. Anybody that needs me knows how to contact me will call my cell and the answering machine takes better messages than I do. I've gotten over the calling people thing since half of my job consists of harassing clients and harassing them over the phone is much more effective than harassing them over email.

Yeah it's plenty easy to avoid it, and forcing someone to leave a message gives you the ultimate upper hand. This was a professional-type call to set up a meeting with a potentially important contact so I had no choice. I'm sure I'll have to get over it at some point if I ever plan to have a real job.

I did phone tech support for a couple years (still do, sometimes when they're really busy), so that fear died a long time ago for me. When I'm on the phone with people I don't know I tend to be super-friendly out of habit.

When I first got out of college I worked in a call center doing HR/Benefits/Payroll support, which is funny because I hate talking on the phone. Being chained to my desk by a headset all day was my personal version of hell, but it was good because it motivated me to work my ass off to move up and off the phone. It was great experience though, and even though I still hate talking on the phone, I'm able to do so for work related stuff.

Having been a waiter, bartender, and a customer service rep and seeing the experience I got with general society during those jobs, I wish everyone had worked a customer service job at least once in their life. It gives you a new perspective on patience and how to treat other people, along with a general distaste for the state of our society. People suck.

Having been stuck in retail hell for the past 13 years, I'd like to reemphasize this point to the nth degree. At this point when I watch a movie where aliens are trying to destroy mankind, I root for the aliens.

Chowder Cup champians in the 30C division. Down 2-0 after the 2nd and won 3-2 in the semis and a smooth 5-1 W in the finals thanks to my two apples and all around shutdown D.

In other news, I learned that my body does not like it when I play 6 games on 6 days, with another one coming up tomorrow.
