I'm not looking for your soliloquy on all the things that the Bruins need to do right in order for them to win. Let's hear the one most important thing that you feel they need to do in order to win this game. It can be a strategy (only shoot when you see the white of Holtby's eyes), it can be a player (Ferrence needs to earn his first hat trick), it can be an attitude (the B's need to be nicer to the refs)...whatever the fuck you want. Here's mine...

Jam the crease. I'm sick of seeing rebounds flopping around in front of the net. I'm tired of hearing about how great Holtby is playing because he's getting clean looks on almost all the shots coming his way. Clog up the middle, get dirty and play like Phil Esposito in front of the fucking net.

What's your key to game 7?

There is nothing to suggest this game will be any different than the first six. Both teams trying to funnel the game to boards and the points, tight, make the most of your chances. In a game like that you need your goalie to minimize his own mistakes and make some key stops. Thimas hasn't been vintage Thimas, but there have been some soft goals and fat rebounds. He needs to be better tonight.

Seguin needs to continue to use his speed. B's got two goals due to that in game 6. Similarly, get Seguin out there against one of Hamrlik/Wideman as much as possible. They flat out can't keep up, and forwards coming back to help will leave the points open while Lucic and Krejci drive the net in the event of a drop pass.

Overtime really exposed Holtby's aggressiveness, not only on Seguin's goal but on Chara's chance he flubbed a few minutes earlier. Wait him out and get him to commit rather than throw a panicked shot on net.

So the key is no Danny Paille breakaways.

Lucic continuing the process of regrowing his nutsack.

An angry, DISCIPLINED, net crashing, body checking, mean mugging, goal scoring Lucic is the one thing Washington cannot match. If Lucic plays like good Lucic, Bruins win.

Crash the net: putting bodies in front of Holtby is important if we stick with the shots fom the point strategy. He serves up some rebounds when view is obstructed.

It's been said: Take your spot in the crease, keep it, send rebounds home.
Holtby has done a good job, but the guys in front of him have owned their crease. This has to change.
Else, the complete return of St. Thimas...

Bodies in front of the net to slam home some of these rebounds Holtby is leaving. On a smaller note as its not a key but could be huge even though it sounds obvious: Get the first goal and get it early. Get the crowd into and get the Caps and Holtby doubting. This is an enormous amount of pressure on a young kid playing in the biggest game of his life. He has to be feeling the pressure. It will also force the Caps into a more aggressive game which suits the Bruins better than the clog the neutral zone crap that has been giving the B's fits.

Edit: oh, the intention of the thread was to name the key for the Bruins. In that case, I would say avoiding the late, dumb penalty (I'm talking to you Pouliot!), which cost them game 5 (game winning PP goal) and could have cost them in game 6.

Capitalizing on the speed of the breakout. With a few notable exceptions, the Bruins' breakout has been good this series, but they've little to show for it. Holtby's been strong when the Bruins have been in their set offense and he can see the puck for miles. Capitalizing on the speed of the breakout with a quick net drive, or a hard dump around with a quick pass back to the net (e.g. from a crashing Lucic) should lead either directly to goals, or to rebounds that turn into goals.

The cross-ice neutral zone pass has been open all series, which also means the hard dump around, i.e. one that the goalie can't stop, can be a good play if the ice is shit again like it has been for the duration of the series. Of course the direct pass is the preferred option but it's generally easier to corral a puck along the boards than it is to corral a bouncing puck.

This, but in general. Especially Chara and Bergeron. Take no penalties and they have a very good chance to dominate this game 5 on 5 which gives them the best chance to win.

Get bodies in front of Holtby, don't take chances in neutral ice that allows a Capitals breakout, no dumb turnovers(looking at you Joe Corvo if you play and Greg Zanon), and QUALITY opportunities on Holby. Don't be content with constant shots from the point. Get the puck into the slot and get traffic in front.

The key to the game, IMO, is goaltending. Always is, always will be in the NHL playoffs.

If Thomas plays like the man who won the Conn Smythe, the Bruins win.
If Holtby continues his amazing run, the Caps win.

I can imagine Thomas giving up a soft goal. I can even imagine him giving up a goal or two that he could have done little about. But I don't see him having a complete and utter fail. Holtby, on the other hand, I could imagine giving up 4 in a period, especially early. I can imagine, and am praying for, a repeat of last year's Game 6 against the Canucks. Let's hear the crowd break into a long serenade of Hoooolllllllt-beeeee, Hoooolllllllt-beeeee, Hoooolllllllt-beeeee.

Stay out of the penalty box. Even when they haven't scored, the Caps have generated a ton of pressure and gained a lot of momentum from their PPs. The more time this game is played 5-on-5, the better off the Bruins are.

Or slip tabs of acid into all opposing water bottles.

Or don't in case Holtby goes Dock Ellis on us.

I agree with those who said the B's need bodies in front of Holtby. There are going to be a lot of juicy rebounds, and the B's forwards are going to have to pounce on them and put them in the net before the Caps defenders clear the puck. I can see Kelly and Pouliot coming up big tonight in this respect.
