Because for something to live, something must die. That's just the way it goes.

Kill the Twins. They are weak. It's nature.

Good thing you used a capital T there.

Time for Clay to take off the training wheels and start pitching.

That's just not right. (It's called having a low HONBIP)

And some dads get this health-care professional:

This is offensive to the Roma people. I'm trying to be a little more politically correct here, so instead of saying "I feel kind of 'jipped'(sic)", try to say, "I feel kind of 'Roma'd'". Thank you.

That's why he spelled it with the ji instead of the old offensive gy, it is a alternative use based off the Joined In Progress on TV therefore separating it from any reference to the Roma culture.

I would like, 30 years from now, to be able to say to my grandson, "I miss the days when umpires stood behind the plate and randomly missed calls. It brought an element of whimsy to the game, much like that exciting moment in poker when the last card is drawn."

Robots, please.

and WIN.

Cody Ross is a keeper. Sweeney leads the league in doubles. Once we get Ellsbury back that will be a nice OF, especially with Kahlish and Crawford (if he ever plays) coming off the bench (obviously Crawford will start for you nubs out there, that was a joke).

The starting roation isn't all too bad. I think Doubront and Bard will give us 150 effective innings. Dice-K will be able to help out in time. Maybe Cook but hopefully not (it's Cook, after all).

The bullpen sucks. What I wouldn't do for a 2004 Keith Foulke.

We have to be thankful for the SSS brigade of Sweeney, Aviles, and Ross.* If it weren't for those dudes the Sox would be in bigger shit.

*Also, Ortiz and Pedroia but they are constants.

Exploiting an inefficiency, all Sox starters to now be the setup man on on what used to be their bullpen day between starts.

Hopefully, we won't need Bard. This Aussie call-up kid Liam Hendriks sounds pretty poundable.

http://www.minorleag...minnesota-twins

"His fastball isn't a blazer at 87-92 MPH, averaging right around 90 ... the changeup is probably his best pitch, but both breaking balls are respectable ... his command stands out as a big plus ... should be a solid mid-rotation starter."

Papi could exceed 1,000 feet of combined ballistic distance tonight if they don't walk him.

Wait, does that means we're livin' Lars in LF?

Or another showing of Ross-Byrd-McDonald at bottom of the order against RHP.

I can't wait for Cook to be released so we can get this out of there. Dice-K is our 6th starter for depth, and while I like having a #7, I don't like having a #7 that people think is more useful than Bard. I've seen a lot of his games over the years out here in the NL West, and my perception matches the numbers. Useful strike thrower who gets some ground balls, but not somebody who warrants the excitement when the bottom of our rotation is young, cost controlled, and performing great.

I also think that Bard is getting closer to being in position to stay in the rotation all year. Innings limits are generally for young starters moving up levels, and I don't think 160+ is more stressful or a risk compared to what he did last year in relief. Now that we have skipped a start and might do that again at some point with Dice-K, I don't see him having big trouble making his starts.

Cody Ross is a keeper. Sweeney leads the league in doubles. Once we get Ellsbury back that will be a nice OF, especially with Kahlish and Crawford (if he ever plays) coming off the bench (obviously Crawford will start for you nubs out there, that was a joke).

I would not rest Sweeney against a single righty with our current roster, and think this is a mistake. Hopefully it is Lars and not D-Mac. On the other hand there isn't a lefty starter the rest of the month, but with off days and rain outs I don't think Cal Sweeney Jr necessarily needs a break for an inferior matchup.

Injury of some kind? That's the only possible excuse for resting a hot hitter who would have his best platoon advantage against a young pitcher with indifferent stuff.

How many days in a row has he played? Perhaps its a mutual day off? Could they be getting Anderson in LF to help his trade value?

They could. And this would justify resting Ross. There are three possible reasons why Sweeney isn't playing tonight.

1. Sweeney has a minor injury.

2. Sweeney is really tired or sick. (This option is not all that likely, especially the latter since no one has reported an illness.)

3. Bobby Valentine doesn't understand how to properly platoon players.

Adding to the Sweeney conversation, the team had Sunday off and faces Danks, a LHP, on Friday.
