So... can we skip Bard and put him into the bullpen where he belongs now?
That will be the question, of course, with Cook having a call-up date of May 1

This seems treacherous. Why do this unless you're putting him back in the pen? To limit his innings?
"No, Dan. Of course you're still starting. The ninth."
Panic move. Of course, now would be a decent time to panic.

I do like the Anderson for Repko move. I think he could give us some good production in left while Ells/Crawford are out.
So if and when they call up cook does he get sent down again? Does he have any options left or he's going to be DFA'd upon Cook's arrival?

I'm terrified that Bard is going to get Joba'd
You'd think they'd learn after watching the Yankees fuck up royally but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I guess Bobby needs to learn on his own. I thought we didn't want to mess with the rotation though. Bard was getting his legs last start vs. Toronto. Unless it's just for an out or two, I don't like it.You'd think they'd learn after watching the Yankees fuck up royally but it doesn't seem to be the case.

The Red Sox have figured out how to lose a rainout.
It is absolutely a panic move. The starting rotation was the only good thing going for this team and Bard's stuff was its major upside. Just yesterday Cherington was saying to avoid a panic move, but it looks like Lucchino and Bobby V have overruled him.
The disastrous reign of Bobby the Fifth continues.

Sprowl, Two things
One: I would thing this decision rests on BC, more then BV since it is like a "roster move"
Two; IMO I think Bard is just getting his work in Via the BP since his start is being skipped, and they don't want him to get injured after not pitching for a 7+ days.. If he makes his next start its nothing, So I guess we will see what comes of this

Why would they be skipping his start though? I just don't see any other reason.

Don't most teams do this every so often(skip a starters start if its rained out)? Especially since we are struggling, perhaps they want their #1 to hopefully start a winning streak?

Pete Abraham
Just FYI, it's not remotely unusual for team to skip their 5th starter and have the guy pitch out of the bullpen a day or two

You may very well be right. Hope so.
I just have a hunch that they'd want to see more Bard-as-starter before they made a decision -- unless that decision's already been made.

No -- this is 100% a BobbyV decision. Trading for Byrd and calling up Anderson to replace Spears and Repko are Ben moves.
Ben can't dictate how BobbyV manages the roster he's got, nor should he really be able to. He can only suggest and attempt to lay out his logic in a collaborative process. If BobbyV doesn't manage his roster in a suitable manner, Ben (probably) has the power to fire him, but that's about it.
And although after I heard there was a closed-door meeting last night I knew Bard-to-the-bullpen was coming this week instead of next month, I still hate it.

If they don't skip Bard, Lester and Beckett go too long between starts, and if they skip him and don't use him out of the pen, Bard goes way too long without pitching. I really doubt Bard will end up starting again after this, but I'm not sure there's a better way to deal with the rainout on top of the day off they just had thursday. Why would they be skipping his start though? I just don't see any other reason.

A teams 5th starter is a designation usually given to the teams most ineffective starter. Bard has been pretty good, it's Buchholz that should be skipped if anyone is.
Now Bard will not be given a chance of going 6-7 IP against the Twinkies so Bobby V can use him for 1-2 innings (being the Twinkies, none of them is guaranteed to be high leverage unless the SP sucks).

The Twins are very nice guys who play the game the Right Way. I would appreciate crushing them with anything/one. All the Puntos except ours have been recalled because of a tendency to catch on fire. The Twins are a bad team that bad people like. We will crush them with our Punto.
Rain note: 1.5 inches here so far. Still not enough.

I'll be there tonight with my wife, who is pregnant with twins and having a c-section on Tuesday morning. I don't expect we'll last past the 6th inning.
Still, win it for my unborn sons, who may just be Red Sox fans yet.

http://news.bostonhe...position=recentThe Sox get to face Jason Marquis, Nick Blackburn, and Liam Hendriks in a series where they have their 1-2-3 going. Anything less than a sweep to right the ship is unacceptable.
