I hear there's a chance Sunday's game gets rained out. I dunno, I'm a thousand miles away. Whatever, rain sounds good to me.

Supposed to start round noon and not stop till at least tmrw. Fingers crossed, we need the extra day for Ben to go out and acquire actual relief pitching

You should start a thread on that subject.

A rain out would be super-duper, if only to spare us the ESPN broadcast and the inevitable Francona-Valentine subplot

Listening to Tito's broadcast commentary has been one of the highlights of the season so far (not that the Red Sox have offered many highlights to compete). Tito is too much the diplomat to say anything critical of Bobby the Fifth. He'll sympathize with his predicament, defend a few of his manager's decisions, and assert that good starters make for a good bullpen, and a good bullpen makes for a good manager.

And the really sad thing is that he'll be right.

I think the rain has a much better chance of winning today than the Red Sox.

So go rain!

I have no doubt Tito would take the high road. It's the rest of the ESPN universe that would balance it out

IIRCC a rainout against the Rays sparked the Red Sox turnaround last year from a 2-10 start to the best team in baseball for 4 months.

If it rains harder, the turnaround may last for 5-6 months even. We worship a false god, it's the rain gods that giveth and taketh away

I just looked at the hourly forecast. Beginning at 6:00 pm, there is supposed to be a 100% chance of rain until Monday at 6:00 am. Too bad the Sox are supposed to be on ESPN. They might have gotten the game in if they started to play at 1:00 pm.

I'm rooting for the rain to wash away the entire bullpen staff.

And John Lackey.

I hope it doesn't rain. CC has been really hittable for a stretch now and the Sox handled him last year. Give us the fat man. We need a win.

On the one hand, the Sox could suck in tremendous fashion, but on the other, they could win this. CC has been sucking so the offense might get a serious chance here.

Don't ask me who pitches after Bard though.

We simply have to figure out what we've got in Bard as starter. And I'd like to see him tested against a top-hitting team like MFY vs. tomorrow in Minnesota.

Plus it was a Sunday night game last April 10th when we were reeling, and they were just above .500, and Beckett beat Sabathia to cool the arrogance of MFY fans. Every time Sabathia gets roughed up, MFY fans face the truth that they really don't have the pitching to win it all.

Sprowl, Regarding Tito's commentary, on Baseball Tonight after the Patriots day game, he actually defended Bobby's decision to leave Bard in to face Longoria and try to get out of the inning. Nomar sitting next to him did as well.

Tito will never say anything bad about Valentine or question hits moves. Tito is above that and knows the potential shitstorm he could start by doing so. Basically, he is the anti-Bobby.

Rained out in NY and DC already. Not a chance this goes off. But because it's Boston/NY and the national broadcast, they'll squeeze every minute out of the waiting game.

If they play this one, it's going to be an exceptionally dismal raw, wet, and cold experience for the fans. Of course, that won't matter one iota when it comes to deciding on a postponement.

Heavier rain is still isolated right now, but a pretty damp cell just went through my friend's house in Quincy. It is very wet here in Pawtucket (and the PawSox were rained out) Radar maps are showing a lot of precipitation, the heaviest stuff is still in New Haven at the moment.

At what point does the powers that be make "the call"? 100% chance of of heavy rain, temps in the mid 40's, games canceled in all surrounding areas with both teams flying out tonight. There will be some pretty pissed off people if this goes into lengthy delay status and never gets played or does get played very late in miserable weather.

Not sure about DFA'ing Bowden. We could win some games with a guy who only surrenders 1 HR per appearance. Woot, Marlon Byrd.

FWIW, I just got back from New Britain Stadium in Connecticut to see the Rock Cats with my daughter. It was drizzling when we left homne around noon, and by the 1:30 game time it was a steady rain, and the game was eventually called off. It's pouring now here in central Connecticut. I'mn checking the hockey listings for tonight because I don't see a way they'll be playing baseball in Boston.
