Hey Red Sox. I saw a team that can compete with the best of the AL East yesterday, picking up their young 4th starter when he faltered with good offense and fantastic relief pitching.

Today, we get Daniel Bard, Start #2. I don't want to see any of that dumb five inning, seeing-eye-hit shit. I want to see some of this.

Dan, don't make Fifth and Co. regret choosing you over Padilla as the fifth starter.

After today's game, Valentine will challenge Bard's commitment for not volunteering to close on the days he doesn't start

I'm going to bed early so I can wake up at midnight and watch this game and see Bard start. Let's make my insomnia worth it

Feels like summer (awful for the Marathon, but good for the Sox bats) and they're in the Rays' heads for a change. Might as well make it a clean sweep.

Do this so they get to .500 in 30 fewer games than it took last year. Do this.

Wait, didn't Bard have to deal with Punto's crap defense at SS in his first start? Now they've got him at the hot corner in his second... Not sure what Bobby's trying to do here, unless he actually thinks Punto is a defensive upgrade over Youks.

Prove me wrong Sparky.

Perhaps rather than a personal catcher, Bard demands a personal utility infielder.

Obviously, this game will end with a walk off hit of some sort by Youk.

Youkilis did take a pretty good shot to the glove hand thumb in yesterday's game. maybe all this drama has been a smokescreen. And its the 16th. Patriot's Day is the 19th.Everey one is confused. Must be the heat.

Punto 7th? WTF Fifth. Why are you making lineup decisions based on 9 games and <20 at-bats for Salty and Darnell?

But back in 2006-07, Punto really hit Shields super-duper-well.

On turf, even.

I heard on ESPN that Youks has a groin thing. Aren't your NESNs and EEIs saying this?

Roche said Pedroia ended the media availability and thinks he had a players meeting.

Hopefully Farrell avoids extension offers.

And Bobby said you isn't playing because a groin.

Haven't checked either yet.

EDIT: Ah, ok. Maybe that's why his swing has looked screwed up early on too.

If that's a new development, then shit -- because that's exactly what his sports hernia surgery was supposed to fix. If it's just being cautious with Youk's existing condition, then it's pretty much to be expected.

If Youk were a car, he'd be a goddamn Fiat Spider at this point.

9 games in. 4-5 record. 3 wins in a row and we have......

A players meeting. Dear god.

That's true. Was unaware of the groin strain at the time as well. Just concerned the BABIP gods have cursed Puntos glove and I'd really like to see Bard have a good game today.

John Tomase @jtomase
Youkilis, incidentally, is not in the lineup, but that's because of a soregroin, Valentine said. He'd play if it were a night game.
