Hey Red Sox. I was at the Garden tonight. And I saw a badass team win despite not getting a lot of breaks. Now it's your turn.

I will be at Fenway tomorrow and I don't want to see Home Run Beckett. I want to see this guy.

It's time for a certifiable rebirth of the 2012 Red Sox.

Could we get Bobby V to say a few kind words about Benito Mussolini?

(We're 1-0 when I post in game threads. Here's to continued acausal correlation.)

I respect Mussolini. You know why? The man could make a mean tiramisu.

Next 3 series: Rays, Rangers, MFY. Then it becomes mostly Cupcake City for a month (Twins, ChiSox, A's, O's Royals, Indians, Mariners).

So it could get worse before it gets better. 5-10 going into the Twins series, meaning they go 4-5 on this homestand, feels about right.

The Sox are the worst team baseball and have been for a while. They need a huge homestand to earn the right to call another team a cupcake. A win on opening day would be a nice start.

If Jason Voorhees can rise from the dead on Friday the 13th, so can the Red Sox. We are going 9-0 on this homestand, and each victory will be a shovelful of dirt on the way to burying forever all talk of last year. Is it a lot to expect? Certainly, but the home opener is an occasion for ridiculous optimism. It all starts with a

WIN!

From Associated Press: The Red Sox were 1-5 on their season-opening road trip to Detroit and Toronto. On Friday, with colorful bunting adorning the park, they begin a tough nine-game homestand - four against Tampa Bay, two against Texas and three against New York.

Bunting sucks.
So does losing,

Sorry Josh, eventhough it's Friday the 13th Jason isn't coming back. As far as Tampa's superior defensive positioning, hit the ball THROUGH them.

I love the home opener, even when I'm pissed at the franchise and the team looks bad and 1-5 is feeling oh-so-like-September '11. I simply can't help but be happy and optimistic when watching this team at Fenway.

I'm thinking Ross and Youk hit their first bombs today. I'm thinking Beckett beats Price 6-3 and this team starts to roll. ROLL.

I don't understand this thread. The Red Sox stink. The tide turns. The road ahead is hard. Josh Beckett is a stud. Friday the 13th. Reincarnation.
Yadda, yadda, yadda.

I will always root for this team, even though some of its individual members do not warm the cockles of my heart.
I hope that they have a good day, the first of many more.
Geaux, Sox!

The fact that binomial outcome Josh is on the mound only heightens the sense of excitement. Let's hope we get effective Josh for the first time since August.

Otherwise, it's going to be a real interesting crowd.

"Just [the fans'] arrogance," Scott told MLB.com at the time. "The fans come in and they over the city. They're ruthless. They're vulgar. They cause trouble. They talk about your family. Swear at you. Who likes that? When people do that, it just gives you incentive to beat them. Then when things like [the last game of the 2011 season] happen, you celebrate even more. You go to St. Louis -- classiest fans in the game. You do well, there's no vulgarity. You know what? You don't wish them bad?"

Beckett's velo better be up, and there better be a fastball in Luke Scott's gut first pitch he sees.

That pic is awesome. Clearly 1,001 was the last bid and the two contestants to the right of the war hero deliberately bid low solely to not dick over a guy who risked his life for this country. The guy on the right end only left himself a $25 window where he could possibly win out of deference to the man. But t-shirt dude says fuck that noise, I've been up here for four turns now with dick to show for it. This is my only chance and I'll damned if I'm gonna let soldier boy take home my Barcalounger! 900 lady is like, "oh no you didn't" and 975 is all "can't believe he went there". That is some cold shit.

Fortunately for us, the Red Sox don't even have to be that ruthless. We may be desperate, but unlike the war hero, nobody likes the Rays. Dicking them over is practically doing a public service.

Win!

As T-Shirt Dude prepared to bid, he steadied himself and thought, "This is my Fallujah. This is my Chosin Reservoir. This is my Hill 881." And he did what was necessary.

Today the warrior Ortiz, and his 2-17 lifetime, will stare out at David Price. He will steady himself, and he will bunt safely for a single away from the shift.

Mirabelli will be rushed to the stadium via police escort in order the sub for Tek and catch the throw.
Then, at the last second, Wake will be asked to unselfishly give up the opening spot and serve as long relief instead.
