Ump misses strike two on Gardner, who then singles on a 3-1 pitch. Bases loaded for Jeter, nobody out.

Yanks get 1 run out of it on Jeter's Baltimore chop off the plate. Might be the key inning of the game there.

The Yankees have been squanderific this year. One run with the bases loaded and no outs? Horrible.

Granderson's one-out liner to Andino would have meant two runs if it were two feet higher. Arrieta has good stuff, too. But yeah, these guys as a rule don't hit well in RISP situations. Kills them every October except in 2009 when A-Rod went crazy.

101 pitches, he could easily come back out for another inning. At least till someone reaches.

Interesting. I would pull him right now. But I'm not the manager.

101 pitches over 5 innings in cold weather seems like enough of a workload. Asking more of Sabathia would really be pushing it.

We lose. Nobody warming in the bullpen. CC wants to play horse again tonight.

Well, then I think Girardi is asking for trouble.

Maybe. Cold night might also work in CC's favor. He's just a big horse who thrives on work. His problems last year began during a rain delay game where he got up and down a couple times. JA has all the details on that one.

Meanwhile, the other JA is pitching very well tonight. He's coming right at the Yankees with hard stuff. Yanks don't like guys with good stuff and good control.

His PC is pretty high as well though. Need to chase him this inning.

Nobody up in the pen ... still. YES men think CC is coming out to start the 7th. 111 pitches so far.

You may laugh but Carl Pavano, in his first year with the Yanks, was throwing a shutout in May out in Seattle and Torre let him finish it off. He threw around 130 pitches. He wasn't much good after that. It was his high point as a Yankees, two months into his first season.

update: Pavano tossed a 6-0 shutout on may 17, 2005 in seattle, threw 133 pitches. was done for the season five weeks later.

CC has never thrown more than 111 pitches by his 2nd game of the year. He did throw 111 in 2010, but he was cruising that game and gave up only 1 hit and no BB, and that was against the Rays. These are stressful innings for CC. If Girardi sends CC out for 1 more inning, against the Orioles no less, well, it's not too wise IMO.

The 1996 Yankees played about a 16-inning game in Baltimore early in the season that Tino won with a homer. Big win for a new team.

Weiters was smart not to throw through as Nunez would have been breaking for home.

One thing he can't do is run.

I saw that as a nifty play by Cano. The guy can throw the baseball.

If this goes 11+, NY are in trouble. They can probably cover 9 and 10 with Soriano and Mo.
