There was little to be ashamed of or embarrassed by last night for Red Sox fans. A good deal to feel good about.
For Jays' fans, their turn to suffer. Oh, well.
Geaux, Sox!

I want this turned into a laugher early, so that Bard can relax a bit.

I could watch this one all day, all night, and well into tomorrow. If he could ever figure out what he did on this pitch he'd be better than Pedro.

Brad, Bard? Okay, maybe not. (But there's like zero on google for "Bard" except Shakespeare and Bard College.)

Here's the thing. Doubront is probably not ever going to be much more than average to decent at getting major league hitters out in any situation.
Bard has an established track record of being exceptional at getting major league hitters out in one situation.
All we're asking him to do is do it longer. If he suffers a small downgrade in overall performance while going six innings with some regularity he's going to be exceptionally valuable and we're going to win a whole fuckton of games.

You are right, that pitch is beautiful. God only knows how he got it to move like that

Does that make Bautista Smog?
Smaug. And yes, yes it does.
#18

It looks like his arm angle is lower than normal which would add more natural tail. That doesn't explain why he got more dive on that pitch than a Sedin, but it's a start.I could watch this one all day, all night, and well into tomorrow. If he could ever figure out what he did on this pitch he'd be better than Pedro.

Yeah, auto-correct from my phone doesn't like fantasy names.

Sox lineup: Ellsbury, Pedroia, Gonzalez, Ortiz, Youkilis, Sweeney, Ross, Salty, Punto (6).

What's this...another rational lineup from BobbyV?
Did someone finally plug in Ben's phone?
No
Sox lineup: Ellsbury, Pedroia, Gonzalez, Ortiz, Youkilis, Sweeney, Ross, Salty, Punto (6).
Rational lineups don't have Punto in them.

Rational lineups don't have Punto in them.
Come, come now.
Aviles has played in every game so far, and this is the 2nd game in a row since their last off-day.
It's clearly time for Aviles to take a blow so he can keep his legs strong.

Mike Aviles twisted left ankle Monday. Not serious according to Bobby V but Punto gets start at SS

I want Bard to work out as a starter so fucking much.
So, win and shit.

Bard, slayer of dragons and maker of legends.

Sox lineup: Ellsbury, Pedroia, Gonzalez, Ortiz, Youkilis, Sweeney, Ross, Salty, Punto (6).
I like, I like. Drabek has difficulty throwing strikes, and is very tough on RHB. This is just the lineup to wait him out.

I have high hopes for Dan Bard as a starter. Let the glory of his era as a dominant starting pitcher begin tonight. 6ip, 1 run, 3bb's, 5k's. Make it happen, Dan-o.
Also, I can't stand Colby Rasmus or Brett Lawrie. This Toronto team is becoming as easy to hate as the rest of the AL east.
There is something about playing for the Blue Jays that makes some players so hateable to Sox fans. The Jays lead the league in the "leadpipe to the knee" list.
From Ted Lilly to Frank Catalonotto to Rios, and the baton keeps being passed down to the nest generation.

Hopefully he can smite Bautista before he burns the whole damn town down though.

Bard matches Doubie, Punto Power wins the day, and Bobby V continues to be a genius.

Mike Aviles' Legendary Calves.
those calves totally gave him a leg up in the SS competition.
it's probably hard not to be vein with calves like that.
I'm sorry to hear he is hurt, i hope his ankle isn't totally jacked.

Bautista at least is hotting well against everyone.
Vernon Wells had 80% of his HRs and RBI vs the Sox and parlayed that into a huge contract (that somehow the Angels traded for).
