Ladies and Gentlemen of SoSH.

I'd like to introduce you to the DEFENDING Stanley Cup Champions, the Boston Fucking Bruins.

Posted Image

It's the new season.

Everything that has happened since that wonderful day on June 15th is irrelevant.

It is time to re-introduce the NHL to the Defending Cup Champs.

But first, a look back,

The season started with a bang. The raising of the banner. The tying together of generations. And then the Bruins stumbled. Enamored with their own success the Bruins slumped and found themselves on the bottom looking up. But after going down 2 games to none to both Montreal and Vancouver in the past years playoffs, no deficit was too deep for this team to pull themselves out of.

The Bear came out of hibernation.

Over the next 2 months the Bruins showed the entire league what an angry, focused bear can do. The carnage was glorious. The Bruins reassumed the throne of the best team in all of professional hockey.

And then they weren't again. Injuries mounted, the long season previous looked to be catching up to them, the team seemed to lose a bit of it's identity.

The trade deadline came and went. The Bruins lost no one from their NHL roster, and added some backend depth, and a wily veteran forward.

Things started to come back together. The bear was rousing from his food coma.

The Bruins ended the season strong. 7-2-1 in their last 10. It looked like the team was finally getting back to what made them so great in the first place.

But none of that matters now.

It's the new season.

It's time for new Blood (for Blood).

We definitely ain't too fucking pretty

But we'll drink you under the table
Knock your fucking teeth out
Steal your fucking car
Piss in your face
And fuck your fucking mother

Don't you dare besmirch the good name of Stompbox.

I love all the comments after that video accusing them of ripping off a Disturbed song... that came out several years late. People are so delightfully stupid.

One positive/negative to playing the Caps is that we don't have to hear two national anthems before every game. While I love O' Canada dearly, it means longer time before puck drop, so I'm ok with it.

The two-anthem conundrum is only an issue when teams turn it into a showcase for their opera singer-turned-fan.

I'm looking at you, there, Montreal and Vancouver.

Don't forget Ottawa in light of the recent episode when they had some opera singer take about 10 minutes to do both the Canadian and American national anthems.

I'm continuing my postseason (incredibly superstitious and slightly ridiculous) tradition of not posting in these while the game is on.

Fuck the Caps. Fuck their coach.

Kill!Kill!Kill!

And more importantly, WIN!

It's been a while since I've had this feeling. The nervousness. The way the time of the game lingers over everything I do during the day. Every hour worked, is one hour less to game time. I don't feel this way for any other team. Nine and a half hours to game time. Nine and a half hours until the Bruins get a chance to prove they weren't a fluke, or lucky, or that things broke right. Nine and a half hours until they can get on the scene and demand respect through their play.

Last year's run was magical. I will never forget it. At least until 730 tonight, when the only thing that matters is that we score more than they do.

Just win.

Don't worry he is all defense, all the time now

“I do feel like I’ve shut off any offensive part of my game,” Corvo admitted when asked if he’s done something different after sitting out those six games. “Like trying to jump into plays and stepping up to create offense, I think I’ve shut that down. Now I’m focused on staying back and playing a little more safe. I just have to do whatever keeps me in the lineup. We finished second overall and we have enough scoring, so I feel like I just don’t need to do that anymore in order to help the team. I just need to focus on defense now if I want to stay in and help the team.”

Don't waste your time at Champions. Go over to the Garden area and try to get in to The Fours or go to Baseball Tavern or Copperfields if you're over that way.

If Copperfields is an option, Yardhouse should be as well. Good number of TVs and a shitload of good beers on draft.

Where is there a Yardhouse? I've been to the one in Dedham, they have a fantastic beer selection there.

My go to choice for game watching is Clarke's in Faneiul Hall. Watching Game 5 of the Habs series and Game 4 of the Philly series there last year was pretty awesome. Plus the beers are relatively cheap and the fries are good.

Cornwall's in Kenmore is always good, but I'm biased cause that was my Thursday-Night-In-College spot. Also, there are a few places down around Brigham Circle (The Pig/The Penguin) that usually have things on a large TV/projection screen and have decent food/beer.

Tavern in the Square in Allston is good for absolutely nothing...except watching major sporting events.

The TV situation in Cornwalls is far from ideal.

Felger and Mazz's open is so spot on I need to re-define spot on. What is the motivation for this team this year? There are still teams and people that think the Bruins were a fluke last year so let's go out and prove it to everybody. We have the best goal differential in the league so let's go show that we are still the best.
