Can we trade Bobby Valentine for Ozzie and Heath Bell?

The Heath Bell thing looks good but in a couple of weeks Fenway Park will be being picketed by the Fraternal Order of Hibernians, the Police Benevolent Association, The League of Women Voters, half the citizens of Cambridge, Massachusetts and PETA.

This is pretty much a catastrophe for the Marlins. It would have been better if a hurricane had swooped in and done massive damage to their new stadium. At least they're insured for that.

Hindsight is 20-20 but they really should've included a stupidity clause or something of the sort in Ozzie's contract

All depends on what he's saying. Ozzie speaking in ANY language isn't necessarily a smart move. That said...........You have to believe that Ozzie was hired for more than just his managerial skills and that the Marlins had to be expecting (and maybe even hoping for) a few "gems" from Ozzie to keep interest in the team. Classic case of "Be careful what you wish for".

Very good point!!

I was shocked when The Marlins hired him in the first place because they are an organization that likes things to be very low key and as little controversy as possible. This was evidenced by their demoting Logan Morrison last year for basically nothing more then calling out Hanley Ramirez.

I think the "lost in translation" explanation at his PC was pretty weak, but I've seen weaker lines work. Will he be fired? Not unless the attendance numbers really take it in the chin, I would think. He and/or the team could make a gesture like throwing a few big bills at someone like CANF, actually surprised nothing of the sort has happened already.

This exactly. Castro is the equivalent of Hitler down here. This was the stupidest thing he could have done. The Marlins have worked so hard this off season to bring the community in and have them embrace the team and baseball in general and Ozzie just ruined all of their hard work in one interview. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when the Marlins brass heard this for the first time.

Except that he's not, you know, Hitler or anything even close. But, please, let us continue to invoke HITLER every time we need to make a point.

You obviously don't understand south Florida politics (especially Miami). TNG isn't saying Castro is as bad as Hitler. Only that to many Cubans in south Florida he is worse.

Hurricane season doesn't start until June 1.

There's still time.

SBNation has a good video on Guillen's PC and reaction outside the stadium. Some great interviews and it's interesting to hear from some of the protestors who are not even Cuban and why they were out there.

I hope he gets a really long fake beard and then makes his public apology.

After all, he is Ozzie.

Yeah and fatigues and a cigar

Really Glad you mentioned Morrison and Ramirez. I can't help but wonder that this whole situation might be part of a grand scheme on Bobby's.........errrrrrrr Ozzie's part to deflect attention away from the problems of last season and onto himself. ;)

While not really knowing the sensitivities of South Florida's Cuban-Americans towards Castro, and not wishing to minimize their hatred of Fidel, comparing the magnitude of Hitler's crimes against humanity versus Castro's seems way overblown.

I think the dictator comp that holds up better in all sorts of ways is to Mao's leading the Chinese revolution, taking over mainland China, and the mass exile/retreat Chinese nationalists to Taiwan.

Can we stop trying to tell the Cuban-American population of the U.S. how to feel about Castro? If they consider Castro to be the Cuban equivalent of Hitler, that's all that matters.

This isn't a pednatic educational exercise in ranking whose atrocities are worse

Thank you. As a Jew, I definitely don't think that Castro is comparable to Hitler at all, but if you ask Cubans down here, that is how they feel about it.

Sorry, but I don't think this is a ploy by Ozzie, I don't think he is smart enough for that. :)

I think they are plenty entitled to feel really, really angry about Castro. But let's be clear, for many--though far from all-- of the Miami Cubans ( at least of the older generation) the issue is that the horrible dictator they supported who did bad things to other people got outsted by a horrible dictator they oppossed who did bad things to them.

The issue for many wasn't dictatorship or human rights abuses in Cuba-- it was abuses that were perpetrated against them rather than for them.

That said, I'm kind of running my mouth. How do Miami Cubans feel about Batista now? Anyone?

Edit: I should be clear: I know that the Cubans emigration to Miami started with Batista supporters and then grew to include many, many others. So its wrong for me to pretend its a homogenous group.

I hope that if Ozzie had talked about how much he admired Batista, there would be comperable hue and cry.

From a local Miami and Marlins business perspective that emotion is pretty much the beginning and end of the discussion, but it's also good to get a broader take on it: http://theclassical....zie-being-ozzie

Sorry if it's been posted but I didn't see this anywhere - short video on Yahoo's Front Page from The Franchise where Samson and Loria inform Ozzie that he's been suspended for 5 games.

On Tuesday, Guillen appeared on Dan LeBatard's Miami radio show to address, among other things, his icy relationship with Bell. Primed for fireworks, Marlins players huddled 'round the radio to hear their manager say things like this ..

After Guillen said his piece, third baseman Greg Dobbs, according to Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, booted the media out of the clubhouse for a closed-door, players-only meeting.

BV is bad, but thank god we did not get ozzie

I like the trading Bobby V idea...get a prospect and Ozzie for Bobby then fire Ozzie.
