On his first Easter Sunday with the Red Sox, Mike Easler was 2 for 4 with a walk, a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs. Also, the Red Sox won.

Even taking into account the fact that Easler sounds like Easter, which is today, this is entirely irrelevant. But it would be nice to see one in the W column nonetheless.

Red Sox have laid all their bad eggs the past 2 games, reserving the good eggs for Easter Hoping Cabrera and Fielder pigging out on the bad eggs gives them serious gastrointestinal distress and renders their bats limp as noodles.

Roll back the stone covering the grave of the 2012 Red Sox.

Scherzer strikes out 12 and the sox fall to 0-3, on their way to losing 80 games.

Mark it dude.

At least the Sox are tied with the Yankees. I'll be happy if the Red Sox score a run. Small steps ya know.

Reading yesterday's game thread was much more entertaining than watching the game. Here's to reversing the case today. Not terribly surprised by Beckett yesterday. The dude's been pretty inconsistent and injury-riddled. Has he ever had two above-average seasons in a row? Be curious to see how Buchholz pitches. If he's still gimpy, it's going to be a long April.

Yeah, but Youks looks terrible so far (from ST on), and Punto's the only guy on the bench who can replace him....13 pitchers and all that. If there's a day to sub for him, this is it, especially with Buchholz going. Batting Punto leadoff seems insane but he can do no worse than Ellsbury has done so far, ...so there's that. Rest of the lineup is fine. It would be funny if our first win this year comes with Punto leading off, though. Be interesting to see how soon either Spears or Ciriaco is brought up.

We are going to reserve judgment until Punto goes 0-4 and fails to execute a suicide squeeze down 8-0. Only then will it be appropriate to complain about BV.

Youk might be injured so I'm reserving judgement on that front slightly. But batting Punto leadoff is insanity. That Ells hasn't done well in the first two games does not mean Punto is as good a bet going forward. You know better than that.

I'm also not thrilled that he's found a reason (what ever it is) to put all of our worst hitters in at the same time. Our defense should be excellent today, but I'm gonna have to hope for a couple of dingers if we're going to see a win pulled out today.

Maybe he can walk or get hit by a pitch, or get the ball in play and hope for an error.
All of which would be roughly 500% better than every Youk at bat so far this year.

This isn't unique to Bobby V, but I'll never get the mindset of "hiding" the worst hitting in the line-up in the lead off spot which guarantees that he gets the most ABs.

It's two games. The first two games. His results in them mean almost nothing as they pertain to his expected performance going forward. The only justifiable reason to sub Punto in for Youk in the third game of the season (after a break between games 1 and 2 no less) is if Youk is hurt. That's it. Any reason pertaining to his performance in the first two games is idiotic. So I'm going to give Bobby V the benefit of the doubt and assume Youk is banged up in some way... maybe something that happened in spring training.

I know, it was a joke.
Though Youk was attrocious all through ST, and is coming off an injury so it isn't absurd to sit him, Batting Punto leadoff there is no excuse for though.

What's kind of surprising is Punto seems like the type of guy who was traditionally considered a number 2 hitter: take a pitch so the leadoff guy could steal, bunt him over to second or third, or drive him in from third with a "productive out"--that is, anything the team might need from a batter except what they really need, which is for him to get on base himself.

Sox looked really lethargic yesterday, and if you read the papers there is a lot of tension, so I imagine the goal is to shake the lineup up a bit, give the backups a start, and hope that it gets the team going. I don't like Punto leading off, but if it was Aviles, would anyone care? lets fucking hope it works and argue later.

The team does need another position player. Let Albers go already.
