Can we stop with the whole slugging Rays thing?

Gardner out, Jones in LF, Jeter DHing, Nuñez at SS. Interesting.

Yeah, Girardi said in preseason he plans to do this a lot against lefties. Also, Granderson down to sixth even though he killed lefties last year.

I didn't even notice that Granderson was down in the order.

Price is throwing hard, but he's all over the place.

1-1 to Cano was unhittable. 95 on the black at the knees.

Keppinger completely fucked the turn that. That seemed like a potential double play if Zobrist or Rodriguez were playing 2B.

Price really hasn't improved the off-speed stuff much since he started starting.

3 of those 4 pitches could have been called strikes to A-Rod.

He's completely lost the slider he featured as a reliever in 2008. He now tends to throw a curve more than thr slider, and the change up is really his best off speed pitch.

Strike 3 to Teixeira looked like a 92 MPH cutter.

Definitely had some cut action, great pitch after all FBs the entire inning.

Price's 4 seamers today have so much horizontal run on them that Brooks has them tagged as two seamers.

It's a little strange to have Pena after Jennings, and before Longo.

It kinda wastes Jennings' speed a bit. And a DP very much in the cards if Pena pulls one.

2-0 fastball had great tailing movement though.

Peña has grounded into more than 7 DP in a season once.

Peña's career stats average out to 7 GIDP in a full season.

.866 OPS against RHP last year, and Cone just said Maddon wanted to give him confidence after he K'd 4 times yesterday at the bottom of the lineup.

Joyce is a reasonable middle of the order hitter against RHP. He can't hit lefties at all though.

Keppinger at DH yesterday hitting cleanup felt far more ridiculous.

Keppinger has a 124 wRc+ against lefties, and it worked out pretty well.

Price isn't being terribly efficient, but he's getting the job done (so far). I'm still not sure why the Rays had Shields as their Opening Day starter.

Pretty good curve to K Martin. Price might just break out for real if he can throw a curve ball that well consistently.

Kind of a scary thought how much room he still has to improve.

Defensive middle infielder? No, Ramiro Pena (in AAA) is better, but NY believes that Nunez' bat is going to break out.

Pretty awful pitch by Kuroda. Breaking ball that didn't break.

Kuroda being given a harsh welcome to the AL East.

The Rays lineup looks more imposing than last year with Pena and Scott, a healthy Longoria and Jennings (over Fuld)..

edit- and they have a catcher who looks like he can hit

Price has given up some pretty hard liners last few batters, might get to him yet.
