I feel like an inordinate amount of recent no-hitters have happened on nights when close family members were randomly in attendance. Weaver tonight, and I'm pretty sure Jonathan Sanchez and Braden had parents/grandparents there.

I remember Braden's grandma was at his game, and it was on Mother's day (his grandmother raised him after his mom died to breast cancer).

The strike zone is rather bizarre tonight. Check out strike 3 to Neil Walker in the 7th and ball 1 to Andrew McCutchen in the same inning.

GREAT pitcher but I won't be able to stomach the hype after an MVP and 3 no hitters when Pedro so narrowly missed those honors.

MLBN will pick it up as soon as Verlander takes the hill for the 9th.

Over on a sharp blooper that got through the infield. Guy is absolutely filthy though. If you had one game to win, who is your starting pitcher? Halladay or Verlander?

Certainly not Verlander. Have you missed his playoff performances?

Certainly the best pitcher on the planet. He wasn't great in them, but wasn't god awful.

Counterpoint: How do you throw 5 straight curves to Harrison when he's clearly starting to pick it up?

1. Swing and miss
2. Weak foul
3. Hard foul
4. Take
5. Single

Top 6 about to start in Philly. ESPN

Edit-nevermind! I will apologize to Hamels...3 straight hits.

I have had the Nationals - Philles game on, playing in the background as I messed around on the computer this evening - and not paying too much attention to the game. Upon finding this thread, I get excited, wondering what game the potential no-hitter happening in, figuring I would switch to it and pay attention. As the page loaded, I heard the announcer say "and that's the first hit of the night for Washington..."

I have heard Met fans say if the choice was between a World Series or a no-hitter, they would have to think about it.

This is setting up for a deliciously Mets finish where he loses the no-hitter in the 9th and then misses time on the DL.

If you're referring to them jinxing it by discussing it, that's ridiculous. Announcers can't totally ignore it.

I think they decided a few years ago that it wasn't like ignoring it was actually working for the Mets, so might as well talk about it

As a Mets fan, I have to say I kind-of agree with Spaceman - this isn't a team that's going to seriously contend this year (or realistically next year either), so I don't really have a problem with going for history even if there's a risk of hurting the pitching staff for this year

Also, there's something hilariously Mets-ian about the possibility of their first being due to a missed fair/foul call
