Has anybody ever looked more like Shea Hillenbrand than Daniel Nava, including Shea Hillenbrand?

Nava gets his favorite pitch: fastball below the belt, down the middle, from a righty.

Aceves is mad. I would not want to be the first batter he face!

Aceves throws a big bender on the outside edge, then sails a fastball high and tight. I love the way he uses the whole strike zone.

GO, K, K for Aceves pitching the bottom of the 8th in a tie game.

Gameday had Aceves topping 96.

Aceves looked like a closer right there...I think he deserves that spot ahead of Melancon until Bailey is back, and he might be able to keep it if he does well enough. I would think that the closer would get the 9th instead of the 8th, but I guess with the chance of giving up a run in the 8th and not playing the 9th, getting him work before the off day could have counted more than specific role in a meaningless game.

If it wouldn't be a waste to limit him to the sort of one-inning regimen that defines the job, I would have no problem with Aceves as our closer until Bailey comes back.

Keep thinking the same thing. Someone in the bullpen just needs to piss him off before every appearance.

One of the nice things about him is I think he could be used non-traditionally. Not saying all the way to Goose Gossage, but being able to get 4,5,6 out saves and get Melancon into some seventh innings is an interesting option too.

Pitch F/X had Aceves sitting 95.1 and topping at 96.4 with his 4-seamer. That's a good fastball.

The only difference is that in the old days people didn't have the ability to watch the MASN broadcast and know they were wrong.

COMPLETELY OFF-TOPIC, BUT have a look at this (http://bats.blogs.ny...mes/?ref=sports) about major leaguers stuck with humongous homes that are priced out of the market.

Oh, the Nats announcers say it's a bad play. Those with eyes on the game, whazzup?

Great block on the plate by Butler. Great throw. Great way to end Spring Training. Off to the Motor City, let's play some ball that counts! Feeling good and optimistic!

Coming into a tie game, pitching a 123 inning and your team scores on the next frame is not a vulture win.

Yeah, but Aceves is an angry man on an angry, angry mission. Not to Burma, either. To Anger Wat, which is like two nation-states over.

And what does he plan to do there -- only to collect all the wins those feckless, undeserving louts in the starting rotation allow to slip through their guaranteed-contract fingers.

As the starter of this thread, I feel no claim to starting the Opening Day thread. If nominated I will not accept.

I'm not a big game threader, so I will gladly support the will of the game threaders.

Edit to clarify: I thought that it did not apply.
