Nats win, improve to 13-4.

It's almost the end of April, and the Nationals are 0.5 GB from the best record in baseball.

Here's something I've never seen before: Carlos Gonzalez lost two consecutive fly balls in the sun, leading to two Pirates runs. The first one was right at him, the second he would have had to make a play on, but didn't come close. He changed sunglasses after the second one.

Garrett Jones followed up with a 2-run homer. Then Pedro Alvarez went back-to-back. All five runs were earned. My apologies to Jhoulys Chacin fantasy owners.

Why I've called then the anti-Sox all season. I love being in the Nats market and lovng .25 mile from their AA stadium.

Orlando Hudson took Zimmerman deep today.

I think that a more impressive stat about the Nats pitching staff is that before this game the Nats had a batting average against of .200. It seems like they are only giving up 4 or 5 hits on a night in and night out basis.

Kemp is insane right now. Brandon Beachy continues to impress: 6 IP, 2 ER. The Braves have the makings of a really good young team.

There are few pleasures greater than listening to Vin Scully call a game.

How beuatiful was his home run call off Kemp? Simple and elegant.

Small sample size alert, but the Nats' rotation has been absolutely sick.

Nats rotation:
Strasburg 1.08 ERA (4 GS)
Gonzalez 1.52 ERA (4 GS)
Zimmermann 1.33 ERA (4 GS)
Detwiler 0.56 ERA (3 GS)
Jackson 4.26 ERA (3 GS)
Total: 18 starts, 110 IP, 1.72 ERA, 0.85 WHIP

The highest WHIP in the rotation is 0.94 and the highest BAA is .193 right now.

Another blown save for Heath Bell and Miami, his 3rd blown save in 5 chances: walk, groundout, walk, walk, walk.

Edit: and fielder's choice, single to close out the walkoff win for the Mets.

Fucking unbelievable. TB pick up Allen out of nowhere and in 2 ABs, he draws a game winning walk and smashes a 2-run walk off homer.

Rays sweep Angels.

Pablo Sandoval's 4th inning single extends his hitting streak to 19 games and moves him past Johnny Rucker for the longest hitting streak to start the season in franchise history.

As you can imagine 0-0 in San Diego through four innings.

The Mariners and Blue Jays are playing an absolute humdinger of a game tonight. A no-hitter through 5, 2 comebacks by the Mariners (so far), multiple runners gunned down at the plate...

edit: ..oh, and a grand slam by Seattle in the 10th to take the lead.

Catch some highlights of this baby if you can.

Mets-Rockies 2-2 through 4, Mets score 4 in the top of the 5th, and the Rockies answer with 11 (!!!) in the bottom of the inning, and they're still up.

Picked up both Trout and Harper in my league.. What a treat, get to watch Vin Scully call the MLB debut of Harper. Wonder what factoids he has on him

Agreed. Tomorrow night is planned out. Scully calling Strasburg would be enough, but also getting to see Harper's debut, count me in.

Tonight Scully transitioned from talking about watching Duke Snider immediately to talk about watching Harper tomorrow.

Really, how great is Vin Scully?

Yea... hindsight is 20-20, but I was praying that the Sox would come out of nowhere and get Darvish this offseason, because everything I read made me think this.

It also sounds like Darvish is the complete opposite of Dice-K off the field as well. Refusing special perks be put in the contract, learning English & Spanish, making an effort to be part of the clubhouse.

I hadn't heard the Spanish, but that's cool. Of course, considering his background (father is from Iran, mother from Japan, but both studied in the US), it's not surprising that he's open to the idea. Are there any good articles that note Darvish's efforts to "fit in" and learn the languages?

According to the Padres broadcast, this is the first time a player has ever hit 3 home runs in a single game in Petco park. I live in central/southern California and the air tonight is as heavy as it gets and cool. Braun would seem to be back on the juice.
