Brandon Jacobs. Do we know if they are pushing him on up to Portland? Wow, if so.

On the fast track: Xander, Coyle, Swihart.

On the clock: Almanzar (again), Renfroe.

Henry Owens ... HS P debuting in full season ball doesn't happen often.

Greenville felt the need to add this at the bottom of their press release:

ADDITIONAL NOTE: After an outstanding Spring Training, former South Carolina Gamecock standout Jackie Bradley, Jr. will begin the 2012 season with the Salem Red Sox of the Carolina League

Those guys were actually counting on that, or at least hoping for a couple of months of him. So judging by my conversations with them, disappointment aplenty. The note at the bottom of the release speaks to their fan-friendliness as well as their sensitivity (and not to mention what they hoped was a JBJ effect around here). They don't want anyone thinking it was their decision.

Younginer will give them a bump whenever he, em, takes the bump.

Swihart, Barnes, Owens and Cecchini are not bad consolation prizes, but nothing drives local gate like local talent.

Bradley had to have played himself out of Greenville in ST; the plan had to be for him to go there, as they knew how big a deal he was to the affiliate & ticket sales. Bradley must have made the decision easy - just was too good to spend anymore time in "low" A. Which is rather exciting, IMO. Bradley's placement is about performance because the logical, business-smart thing to do was put him in Greenville for half-season and improve on his TEN total professional games.

MILB.tv has listed all Greenville home games as being available to watch sometime in the last few days. If that is correct, they would be the 8th team in MiL baseball below AA to broadcast all home games. All AAA team are required to and 5 AA teams do it.

edit: confirmed

Greenville:

Quote

Matt Barnes, Yeiper Castillo, Luis Diaz, Justin Erasmus, Jason Garcia, Tyler Lockwood, Nefi Ogando, Matty Ott, Charle Rosario, Madison Younginer, Hunter Cervenka, Henry Owens, Miguel Pena, Leonel Escobar, Blake Swihart, Jordan Weems, David Renfroe, Jose Garcia, Garin Cecchini, Bryan Johns, Boss Moanaroa, Jose Vinicio, Henry Ramos, Lucas LeBlanc, Keury De la Cruz, Cody Koback, Matt Marquis

As I only get to attend a few games/month, I am betting most of them will be the 'Ah crap, Weems is starting again' when I get to the games.

Per SoxProspects, Moko was released from the organization this offseason.

Thus ending his best-name-ever-for-a-ballpark-announcer's-call career with the Red Sox.

I almost bolded his name -- shocking that the Meneses/Vitek/Gibson/Dent/Hee IF super-rotation has no room for someone on the 40-man roster.

I guess his bat just got bigger -- or rather it needs to. No pressure there.

I would have put a dollar on Vitek moving out there before Oscar. But I guess one of the questions has to be the power.

AA Portland SeaDogs tentative roster announced:

Where are Brandon Workman and Kyle Stroup? Presumably also getting extra work?

Ranaudo, Pimentel, and those two could replace Kehrt, Portice, Latimer, and Buckner. That would be a heck of a strong staff.

He didn't look very good at 2B when I saw him there in Spring Training, so it could just be that they finally gave up on him ever turning into an adequate infielder. Still, if he is a LF now, that puts a ton of pressure on his bat and makes him a bit easier to cut if he ultimately ends up a 40-man casualty.

Swihart, Weems have plate covered for Drive

“It is a great feeling to get to come out and do something you love every day,” said Swihart. “Being able to do it with this group of guys is pretty special and just getting started on my career is pretty good.”

Among the guys playing with Swihart is catcher Jordan Weems. A left-handed batter, the 19-year old Weems was a third round selection of the Boston Red Sox in the 2011 draft. Swihart was taken in the first round.

Both players are highly regarded, and, along with Leonel Escobar, give the Drive potentially the best group of catches since Ryan Lavarnway and Tim Federovich were handling the duties.

While the opening night starting lineup will be released today, both players are slated to get to receive extensive action.

“We’re pretty much going to be feeding off each other,” said Swihart.

“They said we’re going to be (designated hitters), getting our at-bats and catching at the same time,” said Weems. “I think we’re going to be switching out and seeing how it goes from there.”

“They’re really good,’ said Weems. “We’ve got Henry Owens. We’ve got (Miguel) Pena, (Luis) Diaz. We’ve got a lot of good guys out here. We’re really strong. The pitching is good.”

“It is easy to call a game for them,” said Swihart. “You put the fingers down and they’ll throw it. It works out well.”

“I’ve heard opening night is going to be crazy,” said Swihart. “I’ve heard it is Thirsty Thursday, too, so it should be fun.”

FInal PawSox roster per Brian MacPherson

Starting pitchers
Aaron Cook
Brandon Duckworth
Justin Germano
Ross Ohlendorf
Alex Wilson

Germano has drawn the Opening Day start. The rest of the rotation is expected to be unveiled later today.

Relief pitchers
Will Inman
Doug Mathis
Garrett Mock
Clayton Mortensen
Tony Pena Jr.
Chorye Spoone
Junichi Tazawa

All except Mock spent significant time in major-league camp this spring. Jesse Carlson will start the season on the seven-day disabled list.

Catchers
Luis Exposito
Ryan Lavarnway

In the past, PawSox catchers have tended to split duties 50-50, but it's hard to imagine Lavarnway not getting the bulk of the games in the early going this season.

Infielders
Lars Anderson
Pedro Ciriaco
Mauro Gomez
Jose Iglesias
Will Middlebrooks
Nate Spears

Ciriaco probably would have been the 25th man on the Red Sox roster if Bobby Valentine and Ben Cherington hadn't elected to carry 13 pitchers. Tony Thomas will start the season on the seven-day disabled list.

Outfielders
Alex Hassan
Josh Kroeger
Che-Hsuan Lin
Daniel Nava
Jason Repko

What PawSox manager Arnie Beyeler does with his glut of outfielders -- Anderson played some innings in left field during spring training and likely will do so again during the regular season -- bears watching. Hassan and Lin are the two prospects most likely to help the Red Sox in the outfield if need be, so they'll be expected to get most of the playing time. It'll only get more crowded when Ryan Kalish gets back, though Kalish stayed behind to keep rehabilitating his shoulder in Fort Myers and probably won't be back until May.

Presumably in part to ease the overcrowding, Juan Carlos Linares -- widely expected to start the season with the PawSox -- will start at Double-A Portland.

Follow-ups from Brian via Twitter

@brianmacp The PawSox SP rotation in order: Germano, Duckworth, Cook, Mathis, Ohlendorf.

@brianmacp That means Alex Wilson will start the season in the bullpen -- which makes sense given the Andrew Bailey situation.

Stroup is hurt.

From @alexspeier

Stroup blew out the ACL of his right knee in a freak spring training accident in 2010 and missed the entire season. This spring, he blew out his left ACL, and he’ll require surgery that has his 2012 season in jeopardy.

Also:

Ranaudo suffered a mild right groin injury in late-March, and is currently limited to playing catch in extended spring training. He will need to get stretched out by pitching at least a couple of games in Fort Myers before he heads to Portland to start his season. The injury is not considered significant — it wouldn’t be surprising to see Ranaudo in Portland before the end of April — but after a first pro season in which he remained healthy for all 26 of his starts, a notable development given that health had been a question surrounding him when the Sox took him in the supplemental first round of the 2010 draft.

Brandon Workman, meanwhile, is being held back briefly in extended spring training to get some additional innings before starting his assignment in High-A Salem.

Largely because of this, I'm projecting him as a SS or corner OF, assuming he stays in the Sox system.
