Welcome to the 2012 Masters Pool. I have given a lot of thought to the format, and I am beginning the thread early to accommodate any suggestions for alterations. Many thanks to RedOctober3829 for offering to calculate the daily standings and final results.

Rules:

1. Pick according to the below groupings.
2. Scoring is aggregate in relation to par.
3. Best 5 scores count, bottom 3 dropped.
4. If you don't have 5 of 8 make the cut, you are out. This isn't necessarily easy but should provide some mockery and shame.
5. Tiebreaker #1 - pick the winning score.
6. Tiebreaker #2 - average score for top 5 qualifiers on Sunday [you don't need to do anything here].
7. For fun, pick among these older Masters champions to perform the best and worst (Stadler, Mize, Woosnam, Lyle, Crenshaw).

Group A (Select 2)

Phil Mickelson
Lee Westwood
Luke Donald
Rory McIlroy

Group B (Select 2)

I should have been more clear with respect to the tiebreakers. You are guessing the final winners score for tiebreaker #1. If two people have the same points and the same tiebreaker, than tiebreaker #2 is the average Sunday score of their 5 qualifiers. There is nothing to guess there.

So, all you need to do is:

1. Pick your 8 players
2. Pick a winning score

and...

3. If you make any changes you are responsible for putting them in bold in a separate post to make RedOctober's job easier.

After seeing all of the picks, I don't think there's enough diversity here - I think there will be too many ties. I think we should have forced people to pick only one person in Group 1 and made Group 2 a little bigger.

At work we do one where each player is assinged a point value. You have to pick 4 players that total 200 points. Tiger and Phil might be worth 110 and 120, Sticker might be worth 80, DJ 65, Larry Mize 5, etc. So if you want 4 good players, you can't really have the top guys. If you take Tiger you end up with a 5 or 10 point guy. Seems to work.

In this one, everyone would pretty much have Tiger regardless, so he's a wash. The key to this is the C pool in my opinion.

One workaround is to make the first tiebreaker the total score in relation to par of all eight of your picks. That way it won't be decided on a more arbitrary guess of winning score and will be totally dependent on your ability to pick successful players.
