So it's all but a given that Ells is hitting out of the 2 hole this year right? Until Crawford gets back we'll probably have whoever is playing at shortstop leading off. Yay.

I'm seeing that Beckett is out after five with his glorious ERA intact. Pitch count reached? OOps. See he only pitched 84. Whazzup?

Beckett and Lester look like they are both on a mission. I think this bodes well.

Two very good starting performances back to back, looks good to me. My question is what is going to happen with Pedro Ciriaco. If anyone deserves to make this team based on their performance it is him.

Yet again, I tear my hair out and bitch and moan: Nick Freaking Punto, Why, why, why???????????????????????????

Considering that the Sox will likely have to DFA the 25th man to bring Crawford aboard in mid-April, I think Ciriaco's unlikely to make the team.

Repko is a much better strategic choice, since even if he's claimed his role in Pawtucket is basically as Kalish's stand-in, anyway.

Yeah, this.

I haven't really paid attention to any other team's spring trainings...anyone lose a shortstop?

Well, I wish we knew when Beckett and Lester would stop messing around and get ready for the season already...oh wait. Nevermind.

Nice to see Melancon pitch well.

I'm not so clear why there is all the Ciriaco love? Is it on the small sample size hot spring, where stats rarely mean much at all? Or is it the career getting above a 690 OPS once in seven seasons in the minors? I don't think he or Punto should really be playing much, but I would rather have Punto than him. As cute as the Vote For Pedro t-shirts would have been, I can't believe the same people who criticize Punto think that Ciriaco has earned a spot with a few spring at bats. Let's see how he does in the minors for us and talk in 300 ABs.

I'm not convinced that Ciriaco would be any better than Punto but I'm also not convinced Punto would be any better than Ciriaco. Given the choice between the two sucky options, I'll go with the one named Pedro almost every time.

I DVR'd yesterday's game and watched it last night. Punto took at least two half swings on his way to his three strikeouts. I've seen players change their mind mid swing and look real foolish, but not twice in one game. With Blanton pitching also, really?

Punto is going to give us a Lackeyesque level of performance.

I'm calling it now. Lowrie has the year we were all dying for with the Astros and makes us hate Punto even more.

Lowrie is currently hitting .324/.425/.618 with 5 of his 11 hits being XBH and Weiland has a 2.25ERA in 16IP 13H 8/8 BB/K. :c070:

Not looking good.

We never questioned Lowrie's ability to hit. We questioned his ability to stay healthy (and in the particulars of the trade, effectively pitch the 8th inning). I was a Jed fan and a little disappointed, but I think Aviles will be fine.

I don't think spring training ERAs mean very much, but an 8/8 BB/K is not something that encourages me, and I don't think Weiland is anything more than another guy and will not be missed.
