The Jets weren't going to win alot of football games next year in any event.

Filed to ESPN (1): Denver and Jets have encountered hangup in language in Tim Tebow's contract that could nullify trade
(2) If the Tebow trade to Jets falls apart, St. Louis could wind up getting back into play. Sides sorting through details.
Holy shit - if this happens, not just the NFL but the NHL, NBA, and the MLB will laugh at the Jets!

Tim Tebow has $5 million worth of recapture language, meaning Jets would have to pay back money to Denver. Jets might be unwilling. Complex.

The same money issues in Tim Tebow's contract caused complications for Jacksonville trying to complete trade. Now Jets facing them.

What a drama!

But those quotes about trying to find the best fit for Tim and then trading him to the Jets...it's clear Elway doesn't believe in the afterlife.

Wouldn't Denver waive its right to the $5MM just to be rid of Tebow?
What a drama!
I'm sure they would, but if this wasn't known at the time of the trade being consummated then the Jets probably don't want to pay it either.

Hm. When it was announced, the tin foil hat conspiracy theorist in me thought "What a great way to try to bury the Payton suspension news with something high profile... what if Goodell orchestrated it and then found a way to reverse it one news cycle later?"
Like I said, Tin Foil Hat shit. But still.

In hindsight, it's pretty clear this was a PR move, not true regret -- otherwise, the Jags would've coughed up the picks to make this trade happen.
Now that we know about the $5M, this could all just be about the money

I mean, it was obvious to all that Elway really wasn't fond of Tebow.
But those quotes about trying to find the best fit for Tim and then trading him to the Jets...it's clear Elway doesn't believe in the afterlife.
Yet the baby Jesus may have intervened if Bowlen wants and needs the $5MM.
Seriously, I think Tebow would be far better off in St. Louis than in clown school in NYC.

Does anyone know how this $5M would impact the cap for either the Jets or the Broncos?
Don't know yet whether or not it's a "cap" expense or a "real money" expense - but the Broncos are flush with cap space (even after the Manning deal) and has no issues. The Jets, OTOH, restructured Sanchez originally to get some wiggle room under the cap and have since signed Landry & Stanton, so the answer is: probably a big pain in the ass for the Jets and not an issue for Denver.

John Elway, Executive of the Year front-runner. (according to Peter King)
Don't the Broncos need to get further than the 2nd round of the playoffs before we can call this a brilliant move?

Can't they just get Tebow to restructure his contract? He has the same agent as the Jets off. coordinator
If I'm Tebow, I say fuck you, or more likely "go pound sand" in his case, to that suggestion. I want no part of a QB controversy because I want to be the presumptive starter, I don't want to go to the den of sin that is NYC, and I want to go somewhere I'm already beloved. In short, I want JAX, and if I can hold that up by refusing to restructure, that's what I do.

There is major intrinsic value in separating the franchise longterm from the Tebow mess

Or to another team that won't mind taking on the $5M. Jax apparently balked at it; but I agree, he'd restructure for the Jaguars

No one else finds it amusing the executives for Jacksonville are able to read and comprehend player contracts while their counterparts for the Jets cannot? What, do they have a bunch of monkeys dressed up in business suits roaming the offices down there?

Well played.
The trio of Woody/Tanny/Rex is priceless. One blueblood, two jamokes, all wanna be NYC wiseguys, joined at the hip.
And when they are ripped by the hapless and now hopeless callers from Ozone Park, it's a thing of beauty.

Oh there's nothing those types like more than a challenge to convert heathens. Salvation in the Swamp!
I enjoyed Tebow's Denver run and wish him well... after he leaves the Jets. This NYJ sideshow is going to be insanely fun.
In 2-3 years after this has all died down some, he'll be a great Woodhead/Welker style pickup for the Patriots, who'll get him for less money, and a low draft pick....

That was my thought, plus the reality that Jets appear to have leaked the signing before they identified this issue.

@JeffDarlington: Broncos source says Jets agreed to Tebow trade -- and it's their fault for not thoroughly reading contract.

Broncos sources contend the trade was made in good faith, that it should stand and that Jets should pay nearly $5 million. Could. Get. Ugly.

Denver never asked for the money back, the contract was written that way, and the Jets must not have looked at the fine print of the deal
